The Milwaukee Brewers have released left-handed pitcher Randy Wolf today.
Wolf struggled much of the season, posting a 3-10 record with a 5.69 ERA.
Wolf went 13-12 with a 4.17 ERA in his first season with the Brewers and followed that up last year with a 13-10 record and a 3.69 ERA.
Wolf is in the final year of his contract, but the deal does have a club option for 2013 with a $1.5-million buyout, which the Brewers will obviously have to pay.
In 142 1/2 innings, Wolf allowed a league highs in hits with 179 and earned runs with 90.
Shaun Marcum is scheduled to come off of injured reserve and pitch against the Pirates Saturday or Sunday. Wolf’s release will allow Marcum to move into the rotation.
The Brewers also called up infielder Jeff Bianchi from Class AAA Nashville.
