Badger women fall in Bloomington

A slow start for the Wisconsin Badger women’s basketball team and it cost them a 62-60 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind. on Thursday night.

The Badgers shot just 33% in the first half and committed 23 turnovers in the game and Indiana turned those turnovers into 26 points.

Taylor Wurtz and Anya Covington both tallied double-double’s in the game.  Wurtz had 22 points and 12 rebounds while Covington had 10 points and 11 rebounds.  It’s the first dual double-double since Feb. 3, 2008.

It’s the first Big Ten win of the season for the Hoosiers, while the Badgers have dropped 6-in-a-row.

Badger women win at Minnesota

The Wisconsin women’s basketball team held off a late rally by Minnesota and beat the Gophers last night 78-72 in Minneapolis.

Anya Covington scored 19 points to lead the Badgers (7-13, 3-5 Big Ten).  Taylor Wurtz and Morgan Paige added 18 points each.

It marks the first time this season that new coach Bobbie Kelsey has won back-to-back games. 

Wisconsin shot 50% from the field (30 of 60) and 50% from distance (9 of 18).

Badger women knock off Northwestern

Wisconsin poured in a season-high 75 points and knocked off Northwestern
75-55 at the Kohl Center in Madison on Sunday.

Anya Covington led the way with a career high 23 points and 12 rebounds to help the Badgers pull out the win.

Wisconsin (2-5 Big Ten, 6-13 overall) took advantage of Northwestern’s cold shooting to take a 20-point lead with 7-minutes left to play.  The Wildcats shot just 26.7% from the field in the second half.

After tallying just 19 rebounds at Iowa on Thursday, the Badgers pulled down 43 rebounds on Sunday.

Next up for the Badger women, a trip to Minnesota on Thursday night.
