Kimberly looks for record 49th straight victory (AUDIO)

September 30, 2016 By Bill Scott

kimberly-papermakers-logoKimberly’s high school football team can make Wisconsin high school history tonight.  The Papermakers will shoot for their 49th consecutive win when they travel to Appleton West to face the Terrors at the Banta Bowl.

Kimberly currently shares the state-record winning streak at 48 games, with Manitowoc (1983 to 1987) and Waunakee (2009 to 2012).

The closest the Papermakers have come to losing a game came on high school football’s biggest stage, last year’s WIAA Division 1 state championship game against Arrowhead.  Kimberly rallied from 21-points down in the fourth quarter to pull out a third straight state title and keep the winning streak rolling.

The Papermakers are 6-0 on the season, 5-0 in league play.  Besides the state record, the Papermakers are three wins shy of the national record of 51 consecutive wins.

Appleton West is 4-2 overall and 4-1 in league play, just a game behind the Papermakers.  Kimberly captured last years matchup 49-27.

Kimberly’s last loss came back on Nov. 2, 2012, 31-7 to Arrowhead in the Level 3 playoffs.
