Brewers lose another late lead (AUDIO)

July 5, 2012 By Bill Scott

Brewers Closer John Axford was one strike away from notching his 15th save of the season.  Instead, Gabby Sanchez connected on a solo home run to tie the game at 6 in the 9th and the Miami Marlins went on to win 7-6 in 10-innings Wednesday at Miller Park.  Hanley Ramirez drove in the winning run in the 10th off Manny Parra.  The loss is the 9th time in the last 11-loses the  bullpen took the loss.

The Brewers seemed to have the game in hand with a 5-1 lead after 6-innings.  Starter Randy Wolf was cruising along before giving up a 4-spot in the 7th that included home runs by Justin Ruggiano and Logan Morrison.  Wolf made it through 7-innings allowing 5-runs on 6-hits but picked up his 7th no decision in his last 9-starts.  Brewers Manager Ron Roenicke explains why he left Randy Wolf in the game…

Wolf still had a shot at the win when Aramis Ramirez had an RBI in the bottom of the 7th to give Milwaukee the 6-5 lead.  Ramirez, Nori Aoki and Nyjer Morgan each had 2-hits to lead the Brewers offense.  Milwaukee’s first 5-runs came in the 2nd inning off Marlins starter Josh Johnson when the Brewers sent 10-hitters to the plate. Roenicke thought they should have got this one…

The loss drops the Brewers to 38-43 as the 1st half of the season is in the books.  Milwaukee is 7-games behind Pittsburgh who now leads the NL Central.  The Pirates have won 7 of their last 8-games.

The Brewers and Marlins will wrap up their 4-game series Thursday afternoon with a 1:10 first pitch.  Michael Fiers (3-2) takes on Mark Buehrle (7-8).
