Late surge helps Brewers to win (AUDIO)

July 30, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Brewers bats woke up in the top of the 9th Monday at Wrigley Field as Milwaukee notched a 5-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Brewers managed just 3-hits in the first 8-innings but surpassed that total with 4-hits in the 9th.  Carlos Gomez broke the scoreless tie with an RBI Single.  After that, Jeff Bianchi and Rickie Weeks each clubbed two-run doubles to pad the lead.

Kyle Lohse saw no run support once again tossing 6-scoreless innings for a no decision. That has been the story for Lohse all season according to Manager Ron Roenicke…

Brandon Kintzler pitched a scoreless 8th inning to fall into the victory.  He is now 3-0 on the year.

The Brewers and Cubs will lace it up today for a day-night double header at Wrigley.  Game one begins at 1:20 with Yovani Gallardo (8-9, 4.88 ERA) tossing against Carlos Villenueva (2-7, 4.23 ERA) of the Cubs.  The night cap begins at 7:05 as Tyler Thornburg (1-0, 2.95 ERA) gets the call for Milwaukee against Jake Arrieta (1-2, 7.23 ERA) of the Cubs.
