The Milwaukee Bucks signed free agent forward Steve Novak.  The Brown Deer returns to the city where he played in college basketball at Marquette.

The 32-year-old Novak has appeared in seven games for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season prior to being traded to Denver on February 18.

Novak has appeared in 456 career games, averaging 4.7 points and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 43-percent from three-point range in ten NBA seasons.  Novak has made stops with Houston, L.A. Clippers, Dallas, San Antonio, New York, Toronto, Utah and Oklahoma City.

Novak was the 32nd overall pick of the Houston Rockets in the 2006 NBA Draft.

The Bucks also requested waivers on forward Chris Copeland.  In 24 games this season, Copeland averaged 2.1 points and 0.5 assists in 6.5 minutes per game.

Bucks open their season tonight

The Milwaukee Bucks won 41 regular season games a year ago, a 26-game improvement from the previous season.  So the natural question is what kind of improvement will this young team have in store for their fans this season?

Last season, the Bucks lost their top pick Jabari Parker 25-games into the season.  Parker won’t play tonight when the Bucks open up against the New York Knicks at the Bradley Center, but he is expected to make his debut sometime in early November.

The Bucks have made improvements in the offseason, signing free agent center Greg Monroe.  They also added forward Chris Copeland and guard Greivis Vasquez, both of whom should allow the Bucks to improve their three-point shooting. [Read more…]

Parker won’t start the regular season with the Bucks

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd said forward Jabari Parker will not be back to the lineup in time for the start of the regular season.  Kidd said the Bucks hope to see Parker return to action sometime in November if his rehab from A-C-L knee surgery continues to go well.

Kidd said the Bucks have several options to fill in for Parker, including John Henson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Johnny O’Bryant and Chris Copeland.

Henson hasn’t worked at the power forward position during the preseason yet, but that could come in the final two preseason games, including tonight’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Kohl Center in Madison.

If the Bucks go with Giannis Antetokounmpo at the “4”, they’ll still have to make alternate plans for the regular-season opener.  Giannis has been suspended for the opener for his action in Game 6 of last season’s playoff series against the Chicago Bulls, when he body-slammed Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy into the front row of seats.

The Bucks and Timberwolves will also play Friday in the Twin Cities to close out the exhibition season.

Bucks sign Chris Copeland

July 29, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 11The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent forward Chris Copeland to a contract today.

The 31-year-old Copeland was undrafted out of the University of Colorado in 2006 and spent six seasons split between the NBA D-League and professional teams overseas before landing in the NBA with the New York Knicks in 2012-13.

Copeland spent the last two seasons in Indiana, and in 2014-15 averaged 6.2 points and a career-high 2.2 rebounds in 50 games (12 starts).  In his rookie campaign, Copeland finished first among NBA rookies in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 42.1% of his shots from beyond the arc.  That number was also good enough to tie for 13th among all NBA players that season.
