Bucks will focus on three-point shooting in the offseason

Three-point shooting has become a must for NBA teams and the Milwaukee Bucks fell well short in that department this season.

General Manager John Hammond and coach Jason Kidd both say job-one will be to bring in shooters during the draft and free agency.

Kidd said he was hoping to have as many as four outside threats this past year, but O-J Mayo, Jerryd Bayless and Greivis Vasquez were hurt for much of the season as Khris Middleton was forced to take on a larger role.

As a result, the Bucks made 440  three-pointers for the season.  To put that number into perspective, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors made 402 three-pointers all by himself.

The Bucks were also hoping veteran Steve Novak would help, but the former Marquette Golden Eagle and Brown Deer native only played three games before his season ended with a knee injury.

The Bucks host Orlando on Friday night.  They have seven games left in their season.

The Bucks dropped their 10th straight road game, playing without center Greg Monroe, who injured his left knee at the Tuesday morning shoot-around.

Kobe Bryant had 22 points and six assists to lead the way for the Lakers (4-21).  D’Angelo Russell scored 19 off the bench.

Bucks open their season tonight

The Milwaukee Bucks won 41 regular season games a year ago, a 26-game improvement from the previous season.  So the natural question is what kind of improvement will this young team have in store for their fans this season?

Last season, the Bucks lost their top pick Jabari Parker 25-games into the season.  Parker won’t play tonight when the Bucks open up against the New York Knicks at the Bradley Center, but he is expected to make his debut sometime in early November.

The Bucks have made improvements in the offseason, signing free agent center Greg Monroe.  They also added forward Chris Copeland and guard Greivis Vasquez, both of whom should allow the Bucks to improve their three-point shooting. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Bucks introduced one of their recent acquisitions, point guard Greivis Vasquez to the media on Thursday.

The Bucks gave up a protected future first-round pick to get the 6’6 native of Venezuela.

When asked what makes him a good fit with the Bucks, Vasquez said, “I can start, I can come off the bench.  Playing with young guys, I can bring that toughness, that leadership, the passion.  I’m not afraid.”

Vasquez also said he welcomes the competition with 23-year-old point guard Michael Carter-Williams.

“When you go into practice thinking you’ve got to play against the other guy, then your team gets better,” Vasquez said.  “That’s the mind-set I’m bringing.  I want to go out there and compete and make him better.”

With the Bucks trading for Vasquez and adding Greg Monroe in free agency, they traded veteran Jared Dudley to the Washington Wizards for a future second round draft pick.

Dudley was a leader both on and off the court for the Bucks last season, but the Bucks gained some salary cap relief by making the deal.

Washington was looking for help at forward after losing Paul Pierce to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency.
