The Milwaukee Bucks introduced one of their recent acquisitions, point guard Greivis Vasquez to the media on Thursday.

The Bucks gave up a protected future first-round pick to get the 6’6 native of Venezuela.

When asked what makes him a good fit with the Bucks, Vasquez said, “I can start, I can come off the bench.  Playing with young guys, I can bring that toughness, that leadership, the passion.  I’m not afraid.”

Vasquez also said he welcomes the competition with 23-year-old point guard Michael Carter-Williams.

“When you go into practice thinking you’ve got to play against the other guy, then your team gets better,” Vasquez said.  “That’s the mind-set I’m bringing.  I want to go out there and compete and make him better.”

With the Bucks trading for Vasquez and adding Greg Monroe in free agency, they traded veteran Jared Dudley to the Washington Wizards for a future second round draft pick.

Dudley was a leader both on and off the court for the Bucks last season, but the Bucks gained some salary cap relief by making the deal.

Washington was looking for help at forward after losing Paul Pierce to the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency.

Bucks force a fifth game in Chicago

April 26, 2015 By Bill Scott

O.J. Mayo

O.J. Mayo

After the Milwaukee Bucks defense forced yet another Chicago turnover, Jared Dudley found Jerryd Bayless with an inbound pass that resulted in a game winning lay-up and a 92-90 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.  The victory sends the series back to Chicago for game five of the series on Monday night.

Khris Middleton stole the ball from Derrick Rose and while Middleton was attempting a half court shot, Bucks coach Jason Kidd was in the ear of a referee, shouting for a timeout.  He got it, with 1.3-seconds left.  Kidd drew up the game winning play and his players executed to perfection.

The Bucks pulled out the victory with veterans on the floor.  They ended a nine-game playoff losing streak, dating back to their first-round series against Atlanta back in 2010.

O.J. Mayo, who hit a big three with 1:42 to play, led the Bucks with 18 points.  Dudley finished with 13 and Bayless 10.  Mayo also hit 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.  Dudley was 3 for 4.

The Bucks forced 28 Chicago turnovers, which led to 39 points.

Jimmy Butler scored a career playoff-high 33 points, but the Bucks defensively held the rest of the Bulls in check.  Pau Gasol had 16 points and Derrick Rose 14 points for Chicago.

Bucks match last seasons victory total

December 27, 2014 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 2It took a whole season for the Milwaukee Bucks to reach 15 victories last season.  Last night, the Bucks matched that victory total before the end of the calendar year.

Jared Dudley was a perfect 10 for 10 from the field to lead the Bucks with 24 points in their 107-77 pounding of the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena Friday night.

The victory ended a 2-game losing streak and pushed the Bucks back to the .500 mark with a 15-15 record.  Brandon Knight added 16 points for the Bucks in the victory.

The Bucks played without Ersan Ilyasova again.  After just one game back from a broken nose, Ilyasova was forced to sit with a concussion.  Center Larry Sanders also sat with an illness.

But the Bucks bench has been the best in the league all-season and it was that way again last night.  The Bucks reserves tallied 54 points, including a perfect 4 for 4 from three-point range.

The Bucks turned 23 Atlanta turnovers into 30 points and had just 15 turnovers themselves.

The two teams return to Milwaukee to play the back-end of a home-and-home at the BMO Harris Bradley Center (7:30pm).

Bucks win at the buzzer, Parker injured

December 16, 2014 By Bill Scott

Jabari Parker

Jabari Parker

Khris Middleton hit a last second game-winning three-pointer to send the Milwaukee Bucks to a 96-94 win over the Phoenix Suns in the opener of a four-game Western road swing Monday night.  It’s the first game winner of Middleton’s career.

But the victory was overshadowed by the 3rd quarter loss of the teams second overall draft pick Jabari Parker.  He had to be carried off by teammates after injuring his left knee on a drive to the basket.  The Bucks are calling it a knee sprain and say Parker will undergo more tests today.

The Bucks (13-12) improved to 5-4 against teams from the Western Conference.  They got 20 points from point guard Brandon Knight, 14 from Middleton and 13 from Zaza Pachulia.

Jared Dudley had 11 points, four assists and four rebounds in 31 minutes of playing time against his former Suns team.

The Bucks trailed 53-44 at the half but rallied after Parker went down in the third quarter.  They outscored the Suns 29-22 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
