Bucks fall to Rockets in the bubble

August 3, 2020 By Bill Scott

Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 36 points and added 18 rebounds and eight assists but it wasn’t enough as the Milwaukee Bucks fell to the Houston Rockets 120-116 in Orlando on Sunday night.

Khris Middleton added 27 points and 12 rebounds and Brook Lopez had 23 points for the Bucks, who fell to 54-13 overall.

Russell Westbrook scored 31 points as Houston used a late 9-0 run to get back into the game.  The Rockets tied the NBA record for most three-point attempts with 61.  They made 21 of them.  They also forced 22 Milwaukee turnovers.

The Bucks out-rebounded the Rockets 65-36. [Read more…]

The game featured MVP candidates Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden, but it was Milwaukee point guard Eric Bledsoe that stole the show as the Bucks pulled out a 108-94 win over the Houston Rockets at Fiserv Forum on Tuesday night.

Bledsoe scored 23 points, 16 of which coming in the third quarter as the Bucks separated themselves from the Rockets and never looked back.  Bledsoe also led the way by guarding Harden, holding the Rockets star to 23 points on 9 of 26 shooting, including 1 of 9 from three-point range.

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Bucks, who improved to an NBA-best 56-19.

The Bucks struggled early, hitting just 8 of 25 shots in the first quarter, including 3 of 13 from distance.  Guard Khris Middleton missed all six of his shots in the quarter.

The Bucks got things rolling in the second quarter, took the lead and went into the locker room with a 58-53 advantage.

The Bucks magic number to clinch the best record in the Eastern Conference is 3.  Any combination of Bucks victories and Toronto defeats gives the top overall seed to Milwaukee.

The Bucks have a four game lead on the Raptors, plus the tie-breaker, with seven games left in the regular season.

Milwaukee is off Wednesday and will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday night at Fiserv Forum.

Bucks open road trip with victory in Houston

January 10, 2019 By Bill Scott

It was billed as the battle of potential NBA MVP’s going in and Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Rockets guard James Harden didn’t disappoint.

Harden started slow but picked up steam and finished with 42 points and 11 rebounds.  Giannis Antetokounmpo had 27 points and 21 rebounds, including some clutch baskets down the stretch to help the Milwaukee Bucks pull out a 116-109 win in Houston.

The Bucks led by as many as 15 in the fourth quarter, but Houston cut it to three points.  That’s when Antetokounmpo came up with a big tip-in and some key free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.  Harden went 0 for 4 in the final two minutes from three-point distance.  Antetokounmpo made 11 of his 14 free throw attempts on the night.

Malcolm Brogdon added 24 points on 9 of 12 shooting.  The Bucks scored 70 points in the paint, including all of Brogdon’s 24.

The Bucks improved to 29-11 on the season.  They’ll travel to Washington D.C. to face the Wizards on Friday night.

Bucks score 101 points in losing effort to Rockets

January 5, 2013 By admin

While the Milwaukee Bucks (16-15) created a 58-47 lead at halftime, they could not maintain that lead Saturday night against the Houston Rockets (19-14).

A combination of poor shooting in the third quarter from Milwaukee plus a 38 point fourth quarter from Houston fueled the comeback and saw Milwaukee drop their third game in a row.  The Bucks went 4 of 16 for shooting in the third quarter and, in the fourth quarter, allowed a 13-0 run from Houston.

With this third consecutive loss, Milwaukee drops to third in the Central Division, two games behind the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers who are tied for the lead.

Brandon Jennings was one of seven Milwaukee Bucks who hit the double-digit mark in scoring, with 16 points.  Accompanying him was Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy with 12 points, John Henson, Ersan Ilyasova, and Beno Udrih all with 11 points, and Ekoe Udoh with 10 points.

The Bucks were led in rebounds by John Henson with 15 rebounds en route to his double-double. Ekoe Udoh of the Bucks had eight rebounds on the night.

Houston was led in scoring by James Harden with 29 points.  Carlos Delfino had 22 points, Toney Douglas and Patrick Patterson both had 18 points, and Omer Asik had 13 on the night.  Jeremy Lin, who left in the third quarter for stitches after a collision with Milwaukee’s Larry Sanders, had eight points.

The Rockets were led in rebounding by Omer Asik with eight, and both Marcus Morris and Chandler Parsons had seven rebounds.

With the mid-point of the season quickly approaching, Milwaukee looks to get back in the division hunt with a game at the Indiana Pacers Saturday night.
