Ryan Braun clubbed two of the Milwaukee Brewers four home runs on Saturday afternoon, powering past Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs 11-3.

On a day when the wind was blowing out, Domingo Santana and Chris Carter also slugged home runs.  Carter’s shot was a monumental blast that bounced off the new scoreboard in left field for a grand slam.  It was his 35th home run of the season.

Braun drove in five runs in all, helping the Brewers erase a 3-0 deficit to score 11-straight runs and win.  It was his sixth multi-homer game of the season, giving him 30 home runs on the year.

It was the fourth victory in the last five meetings for the Brewers over the Cubs, who played without starters Anthony Rizzo, Ben Zobrist, Dexter bowler and Jason Heyward.

Zach Davies (11-7) earned the win, pitching out of a number of jams.  The Cubs scored their only runs in the first inning.  Kris Bryant tripled in the first run, then scored on Chris Coghlan’s home run to right.

Davies allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings with a walk and five strikeouts.

Cubs starter Jake Arrieta (20-6) dominated the Milwaukee Brewers to become MLB’s first 20-game winner this season. The righthander struck out 11 Milwaukee batters and allowed just three hits in a 4-0 Cubs win Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

The playoff-bound Cubs (89-62) got to Brewers righty Tyler Cravy (0-8) when Kris Bryant blasted a two-run homer in the third. Cravy would surrender three hits and strike out three in his four innings, all en route to his eighth loss of the season.

Chicago added runs in the fifth and eighth innings off relievers Kyle Lohse and Corey Knebel, respectively.

Arrieta dominance included a stretch of 14-consecutive batters retired as he tallied his third complete game of the season.

The Brewers (63-88) play to avoid a sweep, and a 14th loss in 17 games, tonight on Chicago’s northside. Rookie Zach Davies gets the start against Kyle Hendricks. First pitch at 7:05pm. [Read more…]

the loss in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

The Brewers missed a chance to pull out their first 4-game sweep of the Cubs after winning the first three games in the series.

Lohse said home plate umpire Chad Fairchild told catcher Martin Maldonado that Lohse’s grumpy face is going to cost him some strikes.  The comment reportedly came after Nate Schierholtz ripped a 3-1 fastball for a 2-run homer in the third inning to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead.  Lohse thought Fairchild missed some pitches during the at bat.
