Packers look to lock-up home field advantage

The Green Bay Packers (13-1) can wrap up the #1 seed in the NFC this weekend.  A win over the Chicago Bears (7-7) Sunday night at Lambeau Field would do just that, but it may not even get that far.

Saturday the San Francisco 49ers travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks.  A win by Seattle would also guarantee that the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC would go through Lambeau Field.

No matter what is on the line when the ball is kicked Sunday, it’s still a rivalry.  That’s the approach that Safety Charlie Peprah is taking:

Dems claim milestone as GOP files suit

Wisconsin Democrats say they have nearly enough signatures to recall Governor Scott Walker. State party chair Mike Tate gives kudos to organizers and state residents, whom he claims have rallied around the recall Walker flag. “You have done something truly amazing. Your strength and determination has helped us collect more than 507,000 signatures to recall Scott Walker, and we are well on our way to beating our internal goal of collecting more than 720,000″ says Tate.

Tate put the numbers in perspective, using the state’s best known sporting venues as measure. “This means filling Lambeau Field to capacity nearly seven times, filling Miller Park more than eleven times, and filling Camp Randall to capacity six times,” says Tate. The recall team hopes to carry the ball into the end zone on January 17th, by submitting more than 720,000 signatures to the state Government Accountability Board. [Read more...]

Masthay is Special Teams Player of the Week (AUDIO)

Green Bay Packers punter Tim Masthay is the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the

Tim Masthay

Week.

Masthay placed four of his five punts inside the 20-yard line in the Packers
38-35 win at the New York Giants last Sunday.  Masthay had a net average of 44.2 yards per punt and allowed zero return yards.  The only punt that wasn’t downed inside the 20-yard line was a 55-yarder from his own 20-yard line.

Other than a slow start for the first few weeks of the season, Masthay has been in a pretty good groove.  Now he takes his game into the cold.  The Packers will play 3 of their final 4 regular season games at Lambeau Field.  But Masthay said he doesn’t run from the cold, he embraces the elements.

Own a piece of the Packers

For the fifth time in franchise history, Green Bay Packers fans can buy a piece of the team. The Packers this morning launched a stock sale, aimed at helping to raise funds for a $143 million expansion of Lambeau Field.

Shares cost $250 with a $25 per order handling fee. The stock has no monetary value and does not pay dividends.

Packers President Mark Murphy says the timing of the sale is great, with the team coming off a Super Bowl win last season and currently riding an undefeated record this year. Murphy says the sale is a great way for fans to offer their support and to help the Packers have competitive teams in the future.

Fans can buy the stock online, although a phone number has been set up for those without an internet connection.

The team designed a new stock certificate for the sale. Compared to the last one issued in 1997, it has different lettering and an image of Lambeau Field in the background.

In the first 11 minutes of sales this morning, the team sold 1,600 shares. The Packers are offering up to 250,000 shares this time around, which Murphy says they hope will raise about $20 million.
