Badgers return to top 25 polls

September 28, 2020 By Bill Scott

With the college football season a month away, the Wisconsin Badgers are one of a small handful of Big Ten teams that found their way back into the top 25 polls this week.

The Badgers were initially ranked number-12 in the preseason A.P. top 25 poll.  But with the season already underway and the Big Ten still not having played games, this weeks poll results weren’t as favorable.

Wisconsin showed up at number 18 in this week’s Amway Coaches poll and 19th in the latest A.P. top 25 poll.

Fellow Big Ten members Ohio State dropped to No. 6 in both polls, Penn State is 10th in both polls and Michigan is at No. 21 in the coaches poll and No. 23 in the AP poll.

Both Minnesota and Iowa were in the initial AP poll but were unranked in both polls on Sunday.

The Badgers will open their season on Oct. 24 at Illinois at Camp Randall Stadium.

Badgers rank #12 in A.P. Top 25 College Football Preseason Poll

August 24, 2020 By Bill Scott

Despite the Big Ten Conference not playing football this fall, six of the conference’s teams showed up today in the Associated Press Top 25 Preseason Poll.

Paul Chryst’s Wisconsin Badgers showed up at number-12, third among the six Big Ten teams in the poll.  It’s the fourth straight season the Badgers have been ranked in the preseason.

Ohio State checks in at number-2, behind preseason number-1 Clemson.  Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma round out the top five.

Penn State checks in at number-7.  Michigan is 16th, Minnesota 19th and Iowa is ranked 24th.

All Division-1 teams were considered for the preseason poll, regardless of whether or not they’re set to play games this fall.  Both the Big Ten and Pac 12 are among the conferences that have postponed their fall seasons.

Once games begin this fall, voters in the A.P. Poll will only consider the teams currently playing.  As of Monday, 67 of the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision teams are playing this fall.

February 10, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Marquette Golden Eagles, following Sunday’s 76-57 win over Butler, landed in the Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll on Monday.  The Golden Eagles debuted in the poll at No. 18.

After a 1-3 start in Big East play, Marquette has won six of its last seven games and will return to action on Wednesday against No. 15 Villanova in Philadelphia.

Marquette entered the AP poll last season at number 21 and stayed there for the next 12 weeks, climbing as high as 10th.  Then came four straight losses, which led to the Golden Eagles finishing out of the Final AP Poll.

Marquette will enter the game at Villanova with a 17-6 record.
