Red Sox salvage final game with Brewers (AUDIO)

The first two games of the series between the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox at Miller Park were filled with offense.  Thursday afternoon’s series finale was just the opposite.

The Red Sox broke a 1-1 tie in the ninth inning when Mookie Betts clubbed a three-run home run off of Brewers closer Neftali Feliz to pull out a 4-1 win.  The Red Sox pulled out the final game of the series after losing the first two games.

Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson struck out a season-high-tying eight over 6 2/3 innings and Corey Knebel followed him with 1 1/3 innings of solid relief before Feliz got into trouble in the 9th.

Feliz has now allowed five home runs in 16 innings this season and falls to 0-4. [Read more…]

Brewers stay hot, down Red Sox 7-4

For the second straight night, the Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher failed to make it through five innings to be eligible for a win.  But the result was the same, another victory for the Brewers at Miller Park.

The Brewers scored twice in the first inning, giving them 35 first-inning runs in 34 games, on the way to a 7-4 victory.

The Brewers didn’t club any home runs, but they did collect 13 hits.  Hernan Perez replaced Jonathan Villar in the lineup at second base and collected two hits and drove in two runs.  Keon Broxton, Eric Thames, Eric Shaw and Domingo Santana also had two hits each for the Brewers, who improved to 18-16 with the victory. Brewers power their way to win over Red Sox (AUDIO)

After Mookie Betts clubbed a leadoff home run for Boston in the first inning, Eric Thames and Keon Broxton each clubbed two-run homers in the bottom half of the inning and the Brewers went on to score a 11-7 win over the Red Sox in the series opener at Miller Park.

The long balls by Thames and Broxton were part of a five run first inning as the Brewers have now outscored their opponents in the first inning 33-10 this season.  The blasts also pushed the Brewers major league best total to 55.
