June 12, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen has been leaking water.  That leak got bigger on Sunday as the Brewers dropped their second straight to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-1 at Chase Field.

Chase Anderson allowed just one run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out eight for the Brewers.  The bullpen coughed up 10 runs in three innings as the Diamondbacks broke the game open.

Carlos Torres and Neftali Feliz gave up three homers and five runs in the seventh.  Rob Scahill and Wily Peralta then combined to allow five more runs in the eighth, including a grand slam by Paul Goldschmidt off of Scahill.

Torres has now allowed 16 hits in his last 6 1/3 innings, including four home runs with a 14.22 ERA over that period.  Feliz saw his ERA jump to 5.88 with seven homers allowed in 26 innings.

Brewers top prospect Lewis Bronson made his major league debut on Sunday, going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and was credited with his first stolen base.  In his first at-bat against left-hander Robbie Ray, D-backs shortstop Nick Ahmed made a diving stop and throwing out Brinson at first base. Brewers perched at the top of NL Central

May 18, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers are supposed to be rebuilding.  Nobody knows how long this recent streak of success will last, but for now, the Brewers are at the top of the National League Central Division, looking down at the other four teams.

Jett Bandy’s ninth-inning RBI single was the highlight of a two-run rally and the Brewers beat the San Diego Padres 3-1 at Petco Park on Wednesday night.

The Brewers won for the eighth time in the last 10 games to climb five games over .500 at 23-18.  It’s the first time they’ve reached that mark since September of 2014.

Travis Shaw returned to the Brewers lineup after missing two games with a finger injury and immediately paid dividends by driving in Eric Sogard with a rbi single to center.  That would be it until the ninth inning for the Brewers offense. [Read more…]

Brewers power their way to win over Red Sox (AUDIO)

May 10, 2017 By Bill Scott

After Mookie Betts clubbed a leadoff home run for Boston in the first inning, Eric Thames and Keon Broxton each clubbed two-run homers in the bottom half of the inning and the Brewers went on to score a 11-7 win over the Red Sox in the series opener at Miller Park.

The long balls by Thames and Broxton were part of a five run first inning as the Brewers have now outscored their opponents in the first inning 33-10 this season.  The blasts also pushed the Brewers major league best total to 55.

Broxton finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four rbi’s.  He finished a double shy of the cycle but [Read more…]

Brewers win streak stops at four

April 16, 2017 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers saw their four game road winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to the Central Division leading Cincinnati Reds 7-5 at Great American Ballpark.

Zach Davies struggled again early and racked up a high pitch count (96) by the time he got through the fifth inning.  This time, the Brewers bullpen didn’t lend a helping hand, as Carlos Torres surrendered three runs in the sixth inning and Jared Hughes gave up a run in the 7th.

It was former Brewers infielder Scooter Gennett, who singled in a run in the sixth inning, delivered with a run scoring double in the 7th. [Read more…]

Chase Anderson capped off a solid spring with five-innings of one-hit, shutout ball to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-2 exhibition win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night at Miller Park.

Anderson allowed one hit and one walk with six strikeouts, seeing his spring ERA drop to 2.79 in six starts.  He finished 9-11 with a 4.39 ERA in 31 games (30 starts) last season, but he went 6-1 with a 2.56 ERA over his final 12 starts.

Tyler Cravy, Rob Scahill and Jacob Barnes combined to allow just one hit over three shutout innings in relief.

Travis Shaw, hitting in the cleanup spot, had a RBI single and a home run for the Brewers.  The long ball was the fifth of the spring for Shaw.

The White Sox scored both of their runs in the 9th inning off of Carlos Torres, who allowed a walk and two hits.

Jimmy Nelson will pitch for the Brewers this afternoon (1:10 p.m.) in their final exhibition against the White Sox.

The Brewers will open the regular season on Monday against the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park.

Brewers end six-game losing streak (AUDIO)

September 1, 2016 By Bill Scott

Brewers logoAfter several close losses, the Milwaukee Brewers finally found a way to reward a starting pitcher for a job well done.

Matt Garza held the St. Louis Cardinals to a run on three hits over seven-innings to help the Brewers pull out a 3-1 victory at Miller Park, ending a 6-game slide.

Garza coaxed a walk from Cardinals rookie starter Luke Weaver in the third.  Jonathan Villar followed with a hit to left and Kirk Nieuwenhuis finished the rally with a three-run home run to right to put the Brewers on top 3-0.

The Cardinals only run came on a Yadier Molina solo home run in the fourth. [Read more…]

Brewers fall to Braves in extra’s (AUDIO)

August 9, 2016 By Bill Scott

Brewers 2016 alternate capThe Brewers and Braves put in some extra time in their series opener at Miller Park on Monday night.

The Braves scored the game winner in the 12th inning as they held off the Brewers 4-3.

Atlanta loaded the bases in the 12th with nobody out and managed to score just one run.  But that is all they would need to pull out the victory.

Carlos Torres, who pitched two innings of scoreless relief, couldn’t get anybody out in the 12th.  With the bases loaded, Gordon Beckham sent a deep fly ball to center field, which was dropped by Keon Broxton for an error.  Beckham was still credited with a sacrifice fly.

The Brewers went to Blaine Boyer who induced a 3-2-3 double play ground ball and got out of the inning without any further damage. [Read more…]
