Morrison blast leads Gold past Blue at Miller Park

July 17, 2020 By Bill Scott

Logan Morrison

The Gold team is off to a 3-0 start in the Milwaukee Brewers Blue & Gold World Series at Miller Park.

The Gold earned a 4-1 victory on Thursday night, thanks to the first inning three-run home run off the bat of Logan Morrison.

Morrison is a non-roster invitee to camp and is making a strong bid to make the Brewers 30-man roster that will open the season next Friday in Chicago against the Cubs.  Currently, the Brewers 40-man roster is full and they would have to cut a player to make room.  But Morrison had a good spring and has picked up in this summer camp, where he left off.  Not to mention, he would give the Brewers another left-handed power bat.

Morrison’s blast came off of Wily Peralta, who eventually settled down, allowing no more runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.  Peralta allowed four hits in all with no walks while striking out one.

Right-hander Josh Lindblom allowed a run on four hits over five innings to earn the win for the Gold team.  Devin Williams and Justin Grimm also turned in solid relief efforts in the game. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Brewers wrapped up their 10-game road trip with a 2-8 record, ending with a 15-2 loss to the Washington Nationals.  It was a game the Brewers will quickly try to forget as they return home to open a weekend series against the division leading Cubs.

Washington clubbed eight home runs in the win, two shy of the Major League record and one shy of the National League record.  The Brewers have now fallen 1 1/2 games behind the Cubs, who beat the White Sox 6-3 on Thursday night.

Michael Blazek made his first major league start after Matt Garza went on the disabled list with a calf strain.  Blazek surrendered six home runs, including five in the third inning.  Wily Peralta took over and coughed up two more.

Blazek is the first pitcher in Major League history to surrender five home runs in an inning and the first starter to surrender six in less than three innings. [Read more…]

The Milwaukee Brewers bullpen has been leaking water.  That leak got bigger on Sunday as the Brewers dropped their second straight to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 11-1 at Chase Field.

Chase Anderson allowed just one run on four hits in six innings of work, striking out eight for the Brewers.  The bullpen coughed up 10 runs in three innings as the Diamondbacks broke the game open.

Carlos Torres and Neftali Feliz gave up three homers and five runs in the seventh.  Rob Scahill and Wily Peralta then combined to allow five more runs in the eighth, including a grand slam by Paul Goldschmidt off of Scahill.

Torres has now allowed 16 hits in his last 6 1/3 innings, including four home runs with a 14.22 ERA over that period.  Feliz saw his ERA jump to 5.88 with seven homers allowed in 26 innings.

Brewers top prospect Lewis Bronson made his major league debut on Sunday, going 0-for-2 with a pair of walks and was credited with his first stolen base.  In his first at-bat against left-hander Robbie Ray, D-backs shortstop Nick Ahmed made a diving stop and throwing out Brinson at first base. Sogard continues his improbable roll

May 19, 2017 By Bill Scott

Eric Sogard went four for four and reached  base all five times, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park in San Diego on Thursday.

Sogard’s two-run double in the seventh inning was the big blow for the Brewers, who have won nine of their last 11 games.  In the four game series, Sogard went 9 for 15 (.600) with three doubles, a home run, five runs batted in and four runs scored.

The Brewers took three of four from the Padres to improve to 24-18 and remain in first place atop the National League Central.  They Brewers are six games over .500 for the first time since Sept. 17, 2014. [Read more…]

Peralta to the bullpen

May 18, 2017 By Bill Scott

Wily Peralta has been bumped from the starting rotation and will now work out of the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen.  Who takes Peralta’s place in the rotation will be announced sometime today (Thursday).  Peralta was scheduled to pitch the series opener in Chicago against the Cubs on Friday.

In eight starts this season, Peralta had a 4-2 record but his ERA is a hefty 6.08.  He made it through just 4 1/3 innings in each of his last two outings.

Peralta has appeared in 121 major league games with 120 of those coming in a starting role.

Junior Guerra is eventually expected to take the vacant spot in the rotation, but he’s scheduled to make one more start at double-A Biloxi.  So for at least Friday’s game against the Cubs, right-handed minor leaguer Paolo Espino could get the call up.  He was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday for Class AAA Colorado Springs.  Espino is 4-0 with a 2.54 ERA.

May 10, 2017 By Bill Scott

After Mookie Betts clubbed a leadoff home run for Boston in the first inning, Eric Thames and Keon Broxton each clubbed two-run homers in the bottom half of the inning and the Brewers went on to score a 11-7 win over the Red Sox in the series opener at Miller Park.

The long balls by Thames and Broxton were part of a five run first inning as the Brewers have now outscored their opponents in the first inning 33-10 this season.  The blasts also pushed the Brewers major league best total to 55.

Broxton finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four rbi’s.  He finished a double shy of the cycle but [Read more…]

Wily Peralta delivers a pitch in the Brewers 9-4 win over Cincinnati

The Milwaukee Brewers jumped out to an early lead and went on to post a 9-4 win over Cincinnati, sweeping the Reds in their three game series at Miller Park.

Wainwright leads Cardinals past Brewers

April 22, 2017 By Bill Scott

Adam Wainwright had struggled to an 0-3 start for the St. Louis Cardinals.  He started his turn-around in Milwaukee last night and held his own cause with the bat in a 6-3 Cardinals victory over the Brewers.

Wainwright clubbed a two run home run in the third inning, then added a two run single in the fourth, driving in four of the Cardinals six runs.

On the mound, Wainwright held the Brewers to a pair of runs on six hits while striking out nine over five innings.

Wily Peralta (3-1), off to a 3-0 start this season, departed after four innings, surrendering all six runs on nine hits.  He walked only one, but failed to record a strikeout. [Read more…]
