April 11, 2016 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks logo 12The Milwaukee Bucks blew an 18-point third quarter lead and needed overtime to knock off the Philadelphia 76ers 109-108.

Jabari Parker’s three-pointer gave the Bucks a 109-102 lead with 1:34 left in overtime.  Three pointers by Philadelphia’s Ish Smith and Hollis Thompson got them to within 1-point.  The 76ers still had another shot with ten seconds left, but the Bucks prevailed.

Khris Middleton returned to the Bucks lineup and tied his career high with 36 points.  Middleton played 43 minutes and hit 14 of 24 shots.

Philadelphia set a franchise record by attempting 46 three-pointers but his just 13 of them (28.3%).

John Henson added 18 points and ten rebounds, Parker had 15 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 14 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and a season best five blocked shots.

March 26, 2016 By Bill Scott

The Bucks gave up 58 points in the paint and the Hawks scored 22 fast-break points in their win.

The Bucks (30-43) finished oh-and-three on their road trip, losing their fourth straight game.  They have just nine games left, starting with a home game against the Charlotte Hornets tonight.

The Milwaukee Bucks started the fourth quarter trailing the Memphis Grizzlies by five points.  They went with their bench and came from behind to pull out a 96-86 victory.

Jason Kidd went with John Henson, Miles Plumlee, Rashad Vaughn, Tyler Ennis and Damien Inglis.  That group outscored the Grizzlies 28-13 in that fourth quarter and they never left the floor.

Ennis led the way with all 13 of his points in the final quarter.  The Bucks had eight of their 17 blocked shots in the quarter.

Things got a little chippy in the final four minutes.  John Henson committed a hard foul on Lance Stephenson that resulted in a flagrant-1 call, as well as a technical for getting in Stephenson’s face after the play.

Then with 5.5 seconds left and the Bucks up by 10, Henson came from behind to block a Matt Barnes shot out-of-bounds.  Henson then got in Barnes’ face for a short time.  Both players received technical fouls and Henson was ejected.

Even though Barnes hadn’t been tossed, he took off for the tunnel with some Bucks coaches and staff members in hot pursuit.  Nothing ended up happening and the game ended with a Bucks victory.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 15 points, 11 assists and six rebounds.

The Milwaukee Bucks needed a late defensive stop against Dallas on Friday night and they got it, pulling out a 96-95 win over the Mavericks at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Bucks (15-23) build a 17-point first half lead, then fought off a furious Dallas rally in the second half.

The Mavericks (21-16) fired 26 three-point attempts in the first half and made just six.  they finished 14 for 44 (31.8%) from beyond the arc for the game.

Dallas took a 95-94 lead on a pair of free throws by Dirk Nowitzki with 38.4 seconds left but after a Giannis Antetokounmpo offensive foul, Nowitzki committed a turnover when John Henson deflected his pass, which landed in the hands of Khris Middleton.  He scored the go-ahead driving layup with 9.9 seconds to play. The Milwaukee Bucks trailed by four points with 22 seconds left, but they didn’t quit.

O.J. Mayo hit a three-pointer to cut the Portland’s lead to one with 16.8 seconds left.  Then Michael Carter-Williams forced a jump ball and won it.  Carter-Williams then found Greg Monroe for the go-ahead layup with 5.1 seconds left.

Portland has one chance to tie it or win it, but Meyers Leonard’s short jump shot was blocked by center John Henson.  Carter-Williams made one of two free throws after being fouled and the Bucks held on for a 90-88 victory, their second straight.

Giannis Antetokounmp led the Bucks with 17 points while Greg Monroe added 16 points and 12 rebounds.  O.J. Mayo added 15 points, with eleven of the 15 in the fourth quarter.

Portland (9-13) struggled to make shots in the first half and went one for 15 from three point range.  The Trailblazers started to heat up in the second half and made it a close game the rest of the way.

Damian Lillard had 23 points to lead the Trail Blazers.

Today is a practice day for the Bucks, who will host the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night.

Bucks defense goes missing in loss to Kings

November 26, 2015 By Bill Scott

Jason Kidd

The Sacramento Kings played without their leading scorer and rebounder Demarcus Cousins but it didn’t seem to matter.

The Kings (6-10) got 36 points from Rudy Gay and guard Rajon Rondo added 10 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds in a 129-118 win over the Milwaukee Bucks at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Bucks (6-9) lacked any interest in playing defense as the Kings scored 40 points and shot 77% from the field in the first quarter.  They went on to shoot 57% for the game in the victory.  The Kings also hit 31 of 37 free throws, which was a sore spot for Bucks coach Jason Kidd.

The Bucks felt they were getting fouled but weren’t getting the calls from the referees.  Coach Jason Kidd felt he needed to get that point across by knocking the ball out of an officials hand and getting ejected.

Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 21 points each and John Henson came off the bench with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bucks are off today.  They’ll hit the road this weekend for games at Orlando and Charlotte.

Not only did John Henson return to the lineup after missing time with an injury, he was a force in the Milwaukee Bucks 99-92 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Henson had 22 points, five rebounds and three blocks in his return after missing four games with a sore left Achilles.  Giannis Antetokounmpo added 20 points and seven rebounds while holding New York’s Carmelo Anthony to 17 points on 6 of 16 shooting.

Henson hit eight of 12 field goals and six of seven free throws.

The Bucks went on an eleven-to-two run in the fourth quarter and Henson scored seven points during that stretch.

The Bucks lost the season opener to the Knicks 122-97 just over a week ago as the Knicks bench outscored the Bucks bench 73-32 on that night.  Last night, the Bucks bench outscored the Knicks bench 48-47.

The Bucks are back home tonight to host the Brooklyn Nets at the Bradley Center.

Parker won’t start the regular season with the Bucks

October 20, 2015 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd said forward Jabari Parker will not be back to the lineup in time for the start of the regular season.  Kidd said the Bucks hope to see Parker return to action sometime in November if his rehab from A-C-L knee surgery continues to go well.

Kidd said the Bucks have several options to fill in for Parker, including John Henson, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Johnny O’Bryant and Chris Copeland.

Henson hasn’t worked at the power forward position during the preseason yet, but that could come in the final two preseason games, including tonight’s contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Kohl Center in Madison.

If the Bucks go with Giannis Antetokounmpo at the “4”, they’ll still have to make alternate plans for the regular-season opener.  Giannis has been suspended for the opener for his action in Game 6 of last season’s playoff series against the Chicago Bulls, when he body-slammed Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy into the front row of seats.

The Bucks and Timberwolves will also play Friday in the Twin Cities to close out the exhibition season.

Bucks sign Henson to contract extension

October 2, 2015 By Bill Scott

As the Milwaukee Bucks get ready to leave Madison and take their training camp back to Milwaukee, the team announced the signing of center/forward John Henson to a four-year contract extension worth $44 million.

The deal could climb as high as $48 million over the four years if Henson meets incentive clauses.

Earlier this summer, general manager John Hammond identified Henson as one of six core players for the franchise.  The deal shows Henson’s commitment to being a part of the Bucks future plan.

At 24-years of age, Henson has primarily come off the bench for the Bucks, starting only 43 games in 200 appearances.  He averaged 7.0 points and 4.7 rebounds last season but his numbers climbed to 8.8 and 8.0 in the playoff series against the Bulls.

Henson blocked at least one shot in a 20-game stretch last season and finished fifth in the N-B-A in blocks at 2.01 per game.

The 6’11 Henson is expected to back up Greg Monroe at center.  He becomes a dependable complementary player to the Bucks’ talented

young frontcourt core of Monroe, Jabari Parker and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Henson was the 14th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft out of North Carolina.
