Bucks beat Magic, advance to second round

Giannis Antetokounmpo had 28 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to a 119-104 win over the Orlando Magic, closing out their Eastern Conference first round playoff series in five games.

Khris Middleton added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Bucks, who saw their 21-point fourth quarter lead trimmed to three before taking control from there.

Brook Lopez added 16 points and Marvin Williams had 12, all from three-point range, as the Bucks won four straight games after dropping the series opener.

Nicola Vicevic had 22 points and 15 rebounds and Evan Fournier added 18 points for the Magic.

The Bucks move on to the second round of the playoffs against the Miami Heat with game one of the series on Monday.

Bucks beat Magic, grab 2-1 series lead

After dropping their series opener, the Milwaukee Bucks have won two straight, including Saturday’s 121-107 win over the Orlando Magic.  The Bucks now lead the best-of-seven series two games to one with game four set for noon on Monday.

Giannis Antetokounmpo hit all eight of his field goal attempts in the first half and finished with 35 points on 12 of 14 shooting.  Giannis added 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Khris Middleton, who had struggled in the first two games of the series, had 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the victory.  Brook Lopez added 16 points and Eric Bledsoe had 14.

Just as important, the Bucks defensively held Orlando star Nikola Vucevic to 20 points on 8 of 19 shooting from the field. [Read more…]

Bucks sign forward Marvin Williams

The Milwaukee Bucks announced the signing of forward Marvin Williams on Monday afternoon.

Williams is in his 15th NBA season and averaged 6.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 41 games with the Charlotte Hornets this season while shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.6% from three point range.  The 6’8 forward played in 429 games (348 starts) over the last six seasons with the Hornets where he averaged 9.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 27.1 minutes a game.

Originally selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the second overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Williams has played in 1,055 career games, making 828 starts, with Atlanta (2005-12), Utah (2012-14) and Charlotte (2014-20).  He holds career averages of 10.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 28.3 minutes per game.  The North Carolina product is a career 44.3% shooter from the field with 36.2% mark from three-point range.

Williams has also appeared in 49 playoff games throughout his career with both the Hawks and Hornets.  In postseason action, Williams is averaging 7.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 25.1 minutes a game.

The Bucks made room for Williams by requesting waivers on Dragan Bender earlier today.

Bucks request waivers on Dragan Bender, opening the door for Marvin Williams

The Milwaukee Bucks have requested waivers on forward Dragan Bender this afternoon, clearing the way for veteran forward Marvin Williams to sign with the Bucks for the rest of the season.

Williams reached a buyout agreement with the Charlotte Hornets over the weekend and was waived on Saturday.  He could sign with the Bucks soon and could play as early as tonight when the Bucks host the Sacramento Kings at Fiserv Forum.

Bender appeared in seven games with the Bucks this season and averaged 3.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 13.0 minutes per game.  He also appeared in 13 games (all starts) for the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League this season and held averages of 20.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  The 7-foot forward was originally signed by the Bucks on July 30, 2019.
