Carter leaves Marquette

December 15, 2016 By Bill Scott

Sophomore point guard Traci Carter has left the Marquette basketball team and will transfer closer to home.

Carter told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “It’s been tough being away from my family, so far (away).  I miss them a lot, so that’s been tough.  There’s been some problems back home.”

The 6-foot point guard from Philadelphia started 23 of his 41 career games.  He appeared in eight games this season, including four starts, averaging 4.3 points, 3.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 16.3 minutes.  He missed the last two games with a sore knee.

Carter will be the second player to transfer this season after Sandy Cohen III announced that he is leaving Marquette for the Green Bay Phoenix.

Cohen leaves Marquette

November 21, 2016 By Bill Scott

marquettegoldeneagles2Marquette junior forward Sandy Cohen III has left the men’s basketball program.

The former Seymour high school standout, played in 66 games for the Golden Eagles, averaging 4.6 points and 2.3 rebounds.  But Cohen played in just three games this season, getting just 19 minutes combined and didn’t score a single point.

During his freshman season, Cohen appeared in 31 games and started seven.  He averaged 3.8 points in 15 minutes per game.  Cohen started his sophomore season by averaging 9.5 points a game during the first 12 games of the season.  But as Big East play came, Cohen’s game dropped off.

New additions to the roster this season dropped Cohen to the bottom of the depth chart and he saw the writing on the wall.

Where Cohen will go is unknown, but it’s clear the type of minutes he was looking for wasn’t going to come at Marquette.

Marquette recruit hasn’t been released from his scholarship

March 24, 2014 By Bill Scott

After Buzz Williams announced that he was leaving Marquette to take the coaching job at Virginia Tech, recruit Sandy Cohen (Seymour) tweeted Saturday night that he had been released from his scholarship.  But interim A.D. Bill Cords said that was not the case.

Cords told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Marquette’s all-sports policy states that no student-athlete receives a release following a coaching change until he or she has the chance to speak with the new coach.

Marquette is currently searching for Williams replacement and have reportedly already talked with former UCLA and Pittsburgh coach Ben Howland about the position.

Cohen is one of four incoming freshmen signed by Buzz Williams back in November.  All of the recruits were reportedly told by Marquette assistants to sit tight until a new coach arrives.
