The unranked Wisconsin Badgers won for the ninth time in their last ten games, knocking off 8th-ranked Iowa 67-59 at Carver Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night.

Wisconsin became the first team to knock off the Hawkeyes in Iowa City this season and at ten-and-five in the Big Ten, clinched a winning conference record for the 16th straight season, equaling the longest streak in Big Ten history (Purdue also had a run of 16 straight seasons from 1972-88).

The Badgers (18-10, 10-5 Big Ten) outscored Iowa, eight-to-one, over the final one minute 40 seconds to notch their second road win against a top-10 team this season.  It’s the first time Wisconsin has accomplished that since 1955.

The Badgers bench outscored the Hawkeyes bench 23-4.  Khalil Iverson and Jordan Hill scored nine points each while Charlie Thomas added five points. [Read more…]

Uthoff going to Iowa anyway

June 7, 2012 By Bill Scott

Former Wisconsin player Jarrod Uthoff said he’s transferring to Iowa even though Badgers coach Bo Ryan restricted the Hawkeyes from contacting him.

Uthoff will have to play his own way next year at Iowa and will also have to sit out the 2012-’13 season because of NCAA transfer rules.

Uthoff is from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and red-shirted during his first year in Madison.

Marquette’s in the picture for Uthoff

May 8, 2012 By Bill Scott

Marquette University men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams is looking to

Jarrod Uthoff

talk with former Wisconsin Badger forward Jarrod Uthoff.

Uthoff was released from his scholarship by the Wisconsin Badgers and was originally restricted from speaking to Marquette.  However, those restrictions were lifted and now cover only Big Ten Conference institutions.

Uthoff has already visited Iowa State and Creighton and plans to visit Marquette and Florida.

Marquette lost some of their scoring punch with the departures of Jae Crowder and Darius Johnson-Odom.

Marquette has added Arizona State transfer Trent Lockett to the men’s basketball roster.  The 6’5 senior guard will arrive on campus this summer and has one season of eligibility remaining.

Lockett started each of his 25 games last season, averaging 13 points and 5.8 rebounds a game.

Uthoff free to contact any school outside the Big Ten

April 19, 2012 By Bill Scott

The University of Wisconsin has lifted several restrictions originally placed on freshman forward Jarrod Uthoff today.  Uthoff is now

Bo Ryan

free to contact any school outside the Big Ten Conference.

Uthoff met today with associate athletic director Justin Doherty and athletic director Barry Alvarez.  Doherty and Alvarez then met with UW basketball coach Bo Ryan and decided to lift the restrictions for all schools outside of the Big Ten.

The University provided a synopsis of the transfer and appeal process as it pertained to Uthoff this afternoon.  It claimed that the number of schools reported to be restricted (25) had been overstated.

According to UW officials, Uthoff requested permission to contact 16 schools, four of which were denied.  Uthoff then appealed three of the four schools that were denied.

If Uthoff wants to transfer to another Big Ten school and receive an athletic scholarship, he can appeal to the chairperson of the UW athletic board.

Bo Ryan told ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike  that because he had never spoken in person to Uthoff about the transfer, he wanted to force the appeals process to learn why Uthoff wanted to leave the program.

Uthoff leaving Badger hoops team

April 13, 2012 By Bill Scott

Redshirt freshman Jarrod Uthoff has asked for and been granted a release

Jarrod Uthoff

from his scholarship at the University of Wisconsin.

Uthoff was expected to be a big part of the Badgers future and the move comes as a complete surprise to the Wisconsin coaching staff.

Uthoff was Iowa’s Mr. Basketball and the Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 26.2 points and 11 rebounds a game in his final prep season.

Uthoff will have to sit out a year if he transfers to another Division 1 school.
