Brewers salvage finale in Houston

August 13, 2012 By Bill Scott

How bad is the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen?  Ron Roenicke turned to Kameron Loe to close out a 5-3 win over the Astros in Houston on Sunday.

That may sound like a shot directed towards Loe.  It wasn’t.  It’s a shot directed at John Axford and Francisco Rodriguez.

After Axford and Rodriguez have failed so many times, manager Ron Roenicke turned to Loe to mop up at Minute Maid Park on Sunday.

In the process, the Brewers snapped an 11-game losing streak on the road, the second-worst in franchise history.  It’s the Brewers first road win since July 8.

It wasn’t easy for Loe, but he did earn his first save of the season.  He was previously 0 for 5 in save situations.

Yovani Gallardo earned the win (11-8), beating Houston for a 10th consecutive start.  Gallardo allowed 9 hits and struck out 8 over 7 2/3 innings.

Corey Hart also homered in the win for the Brewers.  Milwaukee continues its road trip in Denver tonight to open a series against the Colorado Rockies.

The bench comes through for the Brewers (AUDIO)

July 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

Travis Ishikawa and Nori Aoki each notched key pinch-hits as the Brewers came from behind to defeat the Miami Marlins 6-5 Monday Night at Miller Park.  The win was the 3rd straight for the Brewers who moved their record to 37-42 on the season.

After falling behind 5-2 in the 3rd inning, the Brewers began to chip away at the lead.  Carlos Gomez hit a solo homer, his 5th of the year, in the 5th inning to make it a 5-3 game.  In the 6th, Ishikawa came through with a 2-out, 2-RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.  Aoki put Milwaukee on top in the 8th with a suicide-squeeze scoring Rickie Weeks to make it 6-5.  Manager Ron Roenicke is ecstatic to have a guy like Aoki for a spot like that…

Greinke leads Brewers to another home win

April 19, 2012 By Bill Scott

When Zach Greinke takes the mound at Miller Park, a victory for the

Zach Greinke

Milwaukee Brewers is a sure thing.

The Brewers knocked off the Dodgers 3-2 in 10-innings last night.  The Brewers have captured the first two games in the series to cool off the Dodgers.

Greinke wasn’t around for the decision.  The win went to Kameron Loe out of the bullpen.  But Greinke pitched 7-solid innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking only 2.

How good has Greinke been at home for the Brewers?  Since coming to Milwaukee, the Brewers are now 17-0 when Greinke starts a game at Miller Park. [Read more…]

Quick start lifts Brewers past Cubs

April 11, 2012 By Bill Scott

Alex Gonzalez clubbed a 3-run homer in Milwaukee’s 5-run 1st inning to send the Brewers to a 7-4 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night.

Playing in chilly 40-degree weather, the Brewers jumped all over a wild Paul Maholm, sending 10 batters to the plate in the first inning.

Chris Narveson pitched five innings to improve to 7-1 with a 3.52 ERA in 14 career games against Chicago.  Narveson allowed three runs, two of them earned, on six hits.

Four Brewers pitchers, Marco Estrada, Kameron Loe, Jose Veras and Francisco Rodriguez worked the final four innings to preserve the victory.

Yovani Gallardo (0-1) gets the start for the Brewers this afternoon in game 3 of the 4 game series.  Ryan Dempster (0-0) pitches for the Cubs in the 1:20 start.

January 18, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers reached one-year deals on Tuesday with relievers Francisco Rodriguez and Kameron Loe, avoiding salary arbitration.

Rodriguez agreed to an $8-million contract and Loe’s deal is worth $2.175 million.

The Brewers have two players remaining that are eligible for arbitration, starting pitcher Shaun Marcum and reliever Jose Veras.

The Brewers also signed Japanese outfielder Norichidka Aoki.  He gets a 2-year deal with a club option for 2014.
