Football Badgers getting ready for Michigan

November 9, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin football team is inching closer to a return to Big Ten action against the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday.  The Badgers began their regular game week preparations Monday morning.  The team will practice each day this week and continue to monitor the program’s COVID-19 testing results closely to determine the team’s activities moving forward.

The football program currently has five active COVID-19 cases, two student-athletes and three staff members.  Since Nov. 2, one staff member and one student-athlete have bested positive.  Five of the last six days have yielded no positive cases.

“We had no new positives on Tuesday and Wednesday which was a great sign,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said.  “That’s when we started thinking Friday could be a day we could get the team together to start doing things with an eye towards having a regular practice week.  So we were cautious on Friday and Saturday, split guys into groups, and just did conditioning.  The team then got together and held its regular Monday practice this morning.

“We feel confident that we have a handle on the situation and are excited to play this week at Michigan.  As we have done throughout, we will continue to monitor our testing results and base our decision on those results.”

The Badger football team first paused team activities on Oct. 28 and saw games at Nebraska (Oct. 31) and at home against Purdue (Nov. 7) canceled.

Badgers to find out Tuesday if they’ll play Purdue on Saturday

November 3, 2020 By Bill Scott

After last Saturday’s game against Nebraska was cancelled, the Wisconsin Badgers have had their focus on getting healthy and getting the spread of the coronavirus under control.  Today (Tuesday), the Badgers will find out of this week’s game against Purdue will be played.

Wednesday is the first day the Badgers can resume practice after the school announced a seven day pause in all team activities last week.  As of Saturday, the Badgers reported 22 players and coaches had tested positive for COVID-19.

It’s a big day for the Badgers, who would not only like to resume their season, but want to avoid a second cancellation.  If this weeks game can’t be played, the Badgers would no longer have any margin for error with regards to competing for a Big Ten Championship.

According to Big Ten protocols, teams must play at least six games to be considered for participation in the championship game.  The only thing that would change that is if the average number of conference games played by all teams falls below six.

Michigan game time set

Wisconsin’s Big Ten road game at Michigan on November 14 will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and be televised by ABC.  The Wolverines are 1-1 after falling to rival Michigan State 27-24 on Saturday.  The Wolverines are scheduled to play at Indiana this Saturday.

Ravens reach deal with LB Ryan

April 20, 2020 By Bill Scott

Jake Ryan

The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly reached a one-year deal with former Green Bay Packers middle linebacker Jake Ryan.

The 28-year-old Ryan has spent most of his career with the Packers but hasn’t played a defensive snap since 2017 due to a knee injury.

Ryan has totaled 213 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 45 games.

Ryan was selected by the Packers in the 4th round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Michigan.

Ryan signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars last year, but had a setback with his knee and played in just two games in 2019.  Ryan suffered a torn ACL during training camp with the Packers in 2018 and missed the entire season.

Badgers move to 8th in polls, move on to Michigan

Wisconsin football coach Paul Chryst preaches one game at a time.  His players have bought in and so far, it’s led to a 4-0 start.

The Badgers rolled to a 30-6 win over the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday and now it’s time to focus on the next opponent, the Michigan Wolverines, in Ann Arbor on Saturday afternoon (2:30 p.m. ABC).

It wasn’t long after the win over the Spartans that Paul Chryst was only willing to discuss what’s next, their matchup against the Wolverines.

Leo Musso, who scooped up a fumble recovery and scampered for a long touchdown run said the one-at-a-time way of thinking is always top of mind.

The Badgers play at Michigan Saturday, then get a week off before hosting Ohio State, playing at Iowa and returning home to host Nebraska.  The fans and media line them up one after another and try to predict where the Badgers might fall, if at all.

The players and coaches aren’t interested in hearing any of it.  They’ll get to work this week and worry only about Michigan and it would be smart not to rule this team out of any game they play.

Top 25 Polls

The Badgers climbed in both Top 25 polls after their win over Michigan State.  They’re 8th in both the A.P. Top 25 and the Top 25 Coaches poll.

Saturday’s opponent, Michigan is 5th in the Coaches Top 25 and fourth in the A.P. Poll.
