Fast start nets a Bucks victory

March 20, 2013 By Bill Scott

Perhaps the Milwaukee Bucks got the message when their head coach, Jim Boylan called them out following Sunday’s win against Orlando.  Boylan criticized his teams defensive play in a win over the Magic, saying his players had no interest in playing defense.

Fast-forward to last night, when the Bucks jumped out to a 58-31 halftime lead on the Portland Trailblazers and went on to win 102-95 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.

The Bucks outscored Portland 31-8 in the 2nd quarter but the Trailblazers  dumped 38 on the Bucks in the fourth quarter to make things interesting.   Former Marquette star Wesley Matthews scored 20 of his game-high 28 points in the second half to lead the Portland charge. [Read more…]

Bucks fall to Pistons 103-87 at home

January 12, 2013 By admin

The Milwaukee Bucks could not continue Wednesday’s momentum after a win at Chicago, falling to the Detroit Pistons 103-87 Friday night.  The Bucks (18-17) held a 49-41 lead at halftime, but were outscored by 22 points in the third quarter.

Detroit opened the third quarter with a 23-5 run, and grabbed the lead after a Brandon Jennings foul and resulting technical foul.

The Pistons defense held strong for the game, holding Milwaukee to a 39.6 shooting percentage.

For Milwaukee, three players hit double-digits in scoring.  Brandon Jennings and Beno Udrih each had 15 points, while Monta Ellis scored 13 on the night.  Samuel Dalembert led the Bucks in rebounds with seven, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute and Ersan Ilyasova each had six rebounds.

The Pistons were led in scoring by Greg Monroe with 26 points on his way to a double-double.  Brandon Knight had 20 points, with Jason Maxiell and Kyle Singler each adding 10 points.  Monroe and Andrew Drummond each tied for rebounds with 11.

New Bucks coach Jim Boylan suffered his first win since taking over for Scott Skiles.

Bucks drop first preseason game

October 17, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks dropped their first preseason game on Tuesday night,

John Henson

falling 100-94 to their rivals to the south, the Chicago Bulls.

Nate Robinson scored 24 points and dished out 13 assists, while Richard Hamilton hit 9 of 14 from the field to finish with 23 points to lead the Bulls.

Brandon Jennings, Samuel Dalembert and Mike Dunleavy each scored 13 points for the Bucks (2-1).  The Bucks shot just 41% from the floor.

The Bucks survived a 3rd quarter scare when rookie 1st round draft pick John Henson left with a knee injury.  Henson is scheduled to be examined in Milwaukee today, but Henson appeared confident he’d be OK.  Henson said initial tests on his left leg showed no serious injury.

The Bucks next head to La Crosse to face Memphis in preseason game number four.

Hammond and Skiles thrilled to have Dalembert (AUDIO)

July 3, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks introduced one of their new faces Monday morning.  Samuel Dalemebert was traded to Milwaukee from Houston last week for Jon Leuer, Shaun Livingston and John Brockman.  The deal also included a swap of draft picks, Houston got the 12th pick and Milwaukee the 14th pick.

Dalembert is a true center, something Milwaukee lacked last year once Andrew Bogut went down with injury and was traded to Golden State leaving a void for this season.  General Manger John Hammond is happy to have him…

Bucks acquire Dalembert, swap picks with Rockets

June 27, 2012 By Bill Scott

Earlier this week, Milwaukee Bucks general manager John Hammond indicated that it was unlikely the Bucks would trade out of

John Hammond

the 12th spot in Thursday nights NBA Draft.  That all changed today when the Bucks pulled off a trade with the Houston Rockets.

The Bucks sent their 12th pick in the first round, along with Shaun Livingston, Jon Brockman and Jon Leuer to the Rockets for their 14th pick in the first round and 6’11 big man Samuel Dalembert.

Dalembert averaged 7.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in 65 games for the Rockets last season, including 45 starts.  He gives the Bucks a defensive and shot-blocking presence in the middle.  He averaged 1.7 blocks a game last season to rank 10th in the NBA.  Dalembert averaged 1.9 blocks per game over his career.

Dalembert played college ball at Seton Hall and was the 26th pick in the 2001 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Bucks latching onto a big man 1-day before the draft might indicate that they’re looking elsewhere in tomorrow nights draft, possibly for a shooting guard.

The 6’10 Leuer was the Bucks second round pick out of Wisconsin last season.  He appeared in 46 games for the Bucks as a rookie and averaged 4.7 points and 2.6 rebounds a game last season.
