Brewers walk off win over the Twins

July 3, 2018 By Bill Scott

Brad Miller drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th inning on Monday night, sending the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins at Miller Park.

The Brewers surrendered a grand slam for the third straight game and trailed 5-1 before mounting their comeback.

Nate Orf, playing in his first major league game, was hit by a pitch from Zach Littell to lead off the 10th inning.  Manny Pina followed with a single and Keon Broxton walked.

Hernan Perez than bounced into a fielder’s choice before Miller’s walked ended the game.

Corey Knebel (2-0) pitched a scoreless 10th for the Brewers to earn the victory.  The Brewers got five scoreless innings from their bullpen.

Game two of the series is tonight at Miller Park.  Junior Guerra (4-5, 3.05) pitches for the Brewers.  Former Brewer Jake Odorizzi (3-5, 4.62) gets the start for the Twins.

The Kansas City Royals entered their two-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers as the lowest scoring team in the majors, but they exploded for five runs in the seventh inning to pull out a 5-4 win at Miller Park.

Mike Moustakas got the ball rolling with a solo home run off of Brewers starter Brent Suter to tie the game 1-1.

After three straight Royals reached base, Craig Counsell went to his bullpen.  Jeremy Jeffress got the first out, then went to left Josh Hader, who couldn’t seal the deal.

Adalberto Mondesi’s 2-run single off of Hader gave the Royals a 3-1 lead.  Lucas Duda followed with a sacrifice fly to center to make it 4-1.  Whit Merrifield’s run scoring single made it 5-1 Kansas City.

Hader allowed more than one hit in an inning for the first time in 27 appearances this season. [Read more…]

Brewers acquire infielder Brad Miller from Rays

June 11, 2018 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired infielder Brad Miller and cash considerations from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Ji-Man Choi.

The Brewers have been looking for help at shortstop after Tyler Saladino went down with an injury and both Orlando Arcia and Eric Sogard struggling.

The 28-year-old Miller hit .256 with 5 HR and 21 RBI in 48 games this season with Tampa Bay.  He made 38 starts, at first base, second base and designated hitter.  He was designated for assignment on Thursday.

Miller owns a career batting average of .240 with 73 HR and 260 RBI in 653 games between Seattle and Tampa Bay.

The Rays sent the Brewers more than $2.2 million, covering all but $500,000 of Miller’s remaining salary this season.

The 27-year-old Choi was hitting .233 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in 12 games with the Brewers this season.  He made eight starts in three different stints with the team.
