Eric Thames and Jesus Aguilar both homered as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 5-3 on Sunday, salvaging the final game of their three-game series.

Chase Anderson lasted only four innings but allowed just three runs.  Matt Albers picked up the win out of the bullpen as the Brewers avoided being swept in the series.

Junior Guerra and Jeremy Jeffress followed Albers with a scoreless inning each before Josh Hader retired the last six hitters to record his 17th save of the season.

Kevin Pillar, Brandon Belt and Jeff Samardzija all notched an RBI for the Giants.  Samardzija took the loss, allowing four runs over five innings for the Giants, who saw their four-game winning streak come to an end.

The Brewers open a three game series in San Diego against the Padres on Monday night.  Jhoulys Chacin (3-7, 5.74) returns from the disabled list to pitch for the Brewers.  Joey Lucchesi (5-4, 4.11) goes for the Padres.

Gio Gonzalez gave up a solo homer in the first inning, but then held the Philadelphia Phillies in check through 5 1/3 innings as the Milwaukee Brewers pulled out a 5-2 win in Philadelphia.

Jesus Aguilar singled in two runs, and Ryan Braun had two hits and an RBI in the win.

Jean Seguara homered in the first for the Phillies.  Jake Arrieta surrendered five runs over six innings to fall to 4-4 with the loss.

The Phillies have lost two straight, while the Brewers have won two straight and nine of their last 12.

Zach Davies pitches for the Brewers in the series finale against the Phillies this afternoon.

Anderson to start Saturday

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Chase Anderson will start Saturday in Atlanta, in the rotation spot currently held by Freddy Peralta.

Anderson is returning from a minor-league rehab outing at Triple “A” San Antonio after he missed a start due to a blister in Milwaukee.  Peralta pitched against the Phillies on Monday but made it through just four innings because of a high pitch count.

Brewers drop 2 of 3 in Chicago

May 13, 2019 By Bill Scott

Appearing on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” for the first time in more than 5 1/2 years, the Milwaukee Brewers fell to the division rival Chicago Cubs 4-1 at Wrigley Field.

The Brewers won the series opener 7-0 on Friday, then dropped the next two.

Jhoulys Chacin brought a 2-2 record and 1.59 ERA into Sunday nights start against the Cubs but took the loss.  Chacin allowed two runs on six hits in six innings of work.

The Brewers scored their only run in the fourth inning when Jesus Aguilar singled home Christian Yelich.

Jon Lester gave up only one unearned run for Chicago, pitching into the seventh and striking out six to earn the win.  Kris Bryant had a three hit night for the Cubs, including a two-run home run off of Adrian Houser in the seventh.

The Brewers played without starting left fielder Ryan Braun, who was held out of the lineup with soreness in his left hamstring.  Braun did make a pinch hit appearance in the top of the 7th but struck out.

The Brewers open a four-game series against the Phillies in Philadelphia tonight.  Freddy Peralta (2-1, 6.75 ERA) gets the start for the Brewers.  Aaron Nola (3-0, 4.57) goes for the Phillies.

Aguilar’s bat leads Brewers past Rockies

Jesus Aguilar homers for the Brewers

After entering the series against Colorado without a home run, first baseman Jesus Aguilar clubbed his third home run in the last two games to power the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-3 win over the Rockies on Tuesday night at Miller Park.

With the Brewers leading 1-0 in the seventh, Aguilar clubbed a three-run shot to put Milwaukee up 4-0.  It turns out the Brewers would need those runs, seeing the Rockies score three times in the 9th and falling a run short.  Josh Hader came on to slam the door and earn his seventh save of the season.

The rest of the game was a pitching duel between Jhoulys Chacin and Rockies right-hander German Marquez.

Marquez didn’t allow a base runner until the sixth inning, when Ben Gamel led off the inning with a double.  Orlando Arcia’s bunt single put runners at first and third and nobody out.  Ryan Braun followed with a double play ground out, but Gamel scored on the play to give the Brewers the first run of the game.

Chacin entered the game with a 2-3 record and a 6.35 ERA, but he had his “A” game on Tuesday night.  He allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings to earn his third win.

Chase Anderson (2-0, 3.20) pitches game three of the four game series for the Brewers.  Antonio Senzatela (2-1, 3.93) goes for the Rockies.

The three-hit night for Aguilar, raised his average to .156.

Brewers open first road trip with victory

April 2, 2019 By Bill Scott

Another late game comeback for the Milwaukee Brewers, who knocked off the Cincinnati Reds 4-3 in their series opener at Great American Ballpark on Monday night.

Christian Yelich didn’t hit a home run in a fifth straight game, but he did double with two outs in the ninth inning and then score on Ryan Braun’s double to give the Brewers the game winning run.

Yelich was 0 for 4 before his big 9th inning hit.

Alex Wilson earned the win and Josh Hader recorded his third save of the season.

Jesus Aguilar had a two-run single to get the Brewers on the board and Mike Moustakas made it 3-0 with a run-scoring double.

The Brewers and Reds play game two of the series tonight.  Jhoulys Chacin (1-0) gets the nod for the Brewers.  Anthony DeSclafani goes for the Reds.

Brewers name Chacin opening day starter

March 15, 2019 By Bill Scott

To no one’s surprise, Jhoulys Chacin will get the opening day start for the Milwaukee Brewers when they face the St. Louis Cardinals on March 28th at Miller Park.

Chacin went 15-8 with a 3.50 ERA in 35 starts for the Brewers last season.

This is Chacin’s third opening day assignment, but his first with the Brewers.  His first game in 2013 against the Brewers while pitching for the Colorado Rockies.  Chacin went 6 2/3 innings on that day and got a no-decision in what turned out to be a 5-4 Brewers win.

Both of Chacin’s previous opening day starts came on the road.  This will be the first time he’ll start a season in front of the home crowd.

Brewers tie Angels

The Brewers came from behind to force a 7-7 tie with the angels on Thursday in Maryvale.

Christian Yelich, Jesus Aguilar and Mike Moustakas homered for the Brewers.

The Brewers are 10-10-1 in Cactus League play and will face the Padres this afternoon.

There’s just 13 days now until the March 28th opener against the Cardinals.

Brewers facing elimination after game 5 loss to Dodgers

October 18, 2018 By Bill Scott

Milwaukee Brewers manager went with another bullpen game on Wednesday afternoon, but this time, they ran into a dominating pitching performance as Clayton Kershaw led the Dodgers to a 5-2 win in Los Angeles.

Kershaw held the Brewers to a run and three hits in seven innings as the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead in the NLCS.  It puts the Brewers in a must win scenario in game six on Friday night at Miller Park.

Kershaw’s outing came after he didn’t make it out of the fourth inning in game one of the series at Miller Park.

Wade Miley started for the Brewers but faced just one batter before Craig Counsell went to Brandon Woodruff out of the bullpen.  After Miley walked the first hitter, Woodruff hit Justin Turner but struck out David Freese and got Manny Machado to ground into an inning-ending double play.
