Packers pressure Broncos to improve to 3-0

September 23, 2019 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

The Green Bay Packers defense did it again, forcing three more turnovers and sacking quarterback Joe Flacco six times, on the way to a 27-16 win over the Denver Broncos at Lambeau Field on Sunday.

The Packers defense hasn’t been perfect, allowing 149 rushing yards against the Broncos and a 4.91 yards per carry average in the first three games.  But so far, pressure on the quarterback has made up for the inability to stop the run, giving the Packers a 3-0 start to the season.

Preston Smith led the way with three sacks, including a strip sack of Joe Flacco with rookie Rashan Gary recovering the fumble and setting up a Packers touchdown.

Za’Darius Smith had two sacks and Gary would later add the first of his career.  Second year cornerback Jaire Alexander stripped a ball away from tight end Noah Fant and recovered it at the same time.  That set up a short touchdown drive. [Read more…]

Ball tells Sporting news he’s an alcoholic

April 6, 2017 By Bill Scott

Montee Ball

Former Wisconsin running back Montee Ball, in an interview with the Sporting News, says he drank heavily throughout his college and NFL careers, and through counseling has accepted he is an alcoholic.

Ball told SN that his heavy drinking began in 2011, his junior season in Madison, and throughout his brief NFL career when he would get drunk four times a week.

Ball said, “I was naïve enough to think my playing days would last forever. I would literally sit in the back of the room texting or being on Instagram not paying attention to the professional explaining to me about preparing for life after football and how important it is.”

Ball told the Sporting News, “I failed to use my platform to help others and to use the NFL as a stepping stone in life.  I surrounded myself with bad people, not on the team but in the city.  I was naïve enough to believe I had all the answers.  I’m still kicking myself in the butt for that.” [Read more…]

Eagles sign former Badger, Moffitt

June 30, 2015 By Bill Scott

John Moffitt

John Moffitt

The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Wisconsin Badger guard John Moffitt to a one-year contract this week.

Moffitt was a third-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.  He started 15 games in Seattle before being traded to Denver.  Moffitt played in two games for the Broncos in 2013 before retiring in midseason after losing interest in the game and saying he’s worried about his health.

Moffitt then ran into trouble with the law after being arrested in March 2014 for allegedly punching a man and was charged with assault, public urination and possession of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy.  The drug charges were eventually released.

Seattle uses punishing defense to dismantle Broncos (Video)

February 3, 2014 By Bill Scott

One of the best defensive performances in Super Bowl history came last

Richard Sherman

Richard Sherman

night when the Seattle Seahawks crushed the Denver Broncos, pulling out a 43-18 win in Super Bowl 48 in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

It was the number one offense against the number one defense but as it turned out, Peyton Manning and the Broncos were no match.  Manning looked nothing like the quarterback that set an NFL record with 55 touchdown passes this season.

It didn’t help when the Broncos started the game with a safety after the ball was snapped over Peyton Manning’s head on the very first play.  Manning would follow with two interceptions and Denver would commit four turnovers in all.

The Broncos didn’t even pick up a first down until the second quarter (10:13 left).

The Seattle secondary delivered some punishing blows on Denver receivers to the point of intimidation.

Linebacker Malcolm Smith intercepted a Peyton Manning pass late in the second quarter and returned it 69 yards for a touchdown.  Smith was named the games Most Valuable Player.

In the following video, I join Bill Pollock from the Missouri Radio Network to discuss Sunday’s Super Bowl!
