Jolly Released From Prison

Former Green Bay Packers’ defensive lineman Johnny Jolly has been released from a Texas prison after serving just six months of a

six-year sentence. 

The judge gave Jolly what is called “shock probation” which is granted when a prisoner convinces a judge that spending a short time in prison has shocked him into turning his life around.  He will remain on probation for ten years. 

Jolly was sent to prison after he was arrested four times for illegally possessing codeine.

Perry Ready To Go For Pack

Packers first round pick Nick Perry got his first taste of NFL life this past weekend at Green Bay’s rookie mini-camp.  Perry is moving from defensive end to outside linebacker.  He currently weighs about 270 pounds, which he says won’t cause any problems playing linebacker.  Perry weighed about 250 pounds at USC.  The Packers hope that Perry can help add some pressure on the opposite side of Clay Matthews.  Perry knows it won’t be him alone that will turn the defense around in 2012.  He does fell he can help the defense though.  The Packers will open full squad Organized Team Activities on May 22nd.

The team also signed five players from this past weekend’s rookie mini-camp.  They are Illinois State CB Otis Merrill, Nebraska WR Curenski Gileylen,DelawaretackleShea Allard,VirginiaTech WR Jarrett Boykin, andArkansasguard Grant Cook.

Packers Wrap Up Rookie Camp

The Packers wrapped up their rookie mini-camp on Sunday.  Mike McCarthy says he liked what he saw from the younger Packers

this weekend. He says that the players worked hard and liked the tempo they brought to practice.  The coach says they finished Sunday’s practice ahead of schedule.   McCarty adds that he expects many of the rookies to contribute to the Super Bowl contending team.  He is also happy that all of the team’s draft picks are signed to contracts and will be ready to go for OTAs.  The first full squad Organized Team Activities begins May 22nd.

Packers sign seven draft picks, 14 non-drafted free agents

The Green Bay Packers announced the signing of 7 of their 8 draft picks today.  Only first round pick, LB Nick Perry remains unsigned.

The draft picks that all signed 4-year deals are, Jerel Worthy, Casey Hayward, Mike Daniels, Jerron McMillian, Terrell Manning, Andrew Datko and B.J. Coleman.

The Packers also signed 14 rookie free agents prior to the opening of their 3-day rookie orientation mini-camp.

The list includes:  Don Barclay, Duane Bennett, Jaymes Brooks, Nic Cooper, Tommie Draheim, Cameron Ford, Eric Lair, Mike McCabe, Dezman Moses, Dale Moss, Sean Richardson, Marcus Rivers, Dion Turner and Marc Tyler.

The Packers hold their first practice with the rookies at 4pm this afternoon inside the Don Hutson Center.

 

Packers get first look at the rookies today

Green Bay Packers rookies get their first test today, the start of the teams Rookie Orientation mini-camp. 

It’s a chance for the players to familiarize themselves with the coaches and the teams system. 

At least two Packer rookie draft picks, Jerel Worthy of Michigan State and Jerron McMillian from Maine, have reached deals with the Packers.  But deal or no deal, all of the teams rookies will take part in this 3-day camp. 

All eyes will be on the teams new defensive members as the Packers try to improve the teams 32nd ranked defense in the league.

The Packers will hold their workouts inside the Hutson Center with the first practice set for 4pm this afternoon.
