Strong second half leads Bucks past Sixers

February 7, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Philadelphia 76ers strong three-point shooting kept the game close, but a strong second half by the Bucks cemented their 44th (44-7) victory of the season, 112-101 on Thursday night at Fiserv Forum.

Giannis Antetokounmpo poured in 36 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to lead the Bucks to their 12th win in the last 13 games.  Khris Middleton added 20 points with 16 of those 20 coming in the second half.

Thursday’s game is the fifth in a row in which Antetokounmpo has scored at least 30 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out at least five assists.  The last time that has happened was 1965 by Wilt Chamberlain.

The Bucks used a 14-0 run in the 3rd quarter that would give them a lead they would never give up the rest of the night.

Tobias Harris led the 76ers with 25 points, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers, but Joel Embiid struggled, scoring 19 points, hitting just 6 of 26 from the field and 3 of 10 on three-point attempts.

Philadelphia shot 42.2% from three-point range, but the Bucks refused to give up much in the paint as the 76ers shot just 33% on two-point attempts.

The Bucks are off on Friday and face the Orlando Magic in Orlando on Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.).

Harris haunts his former team

April 11, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks coughed up a 5-point lead in the final minute and fell to the

Jon Henson

Jon Henson

Orlando Magic 113-103 in overtime on Wednesday night.

Former Bucks forward Tobias Harris, traded to Orlando earlier this season, scored 30 points and pulled down 19 rebounds in the win.  Harris tied the game with 1.9 seconds left by hitting a 3-pointer to force the overtime.

If it could go wrong in the final minute, it did for the Bucks.  They couldn’t get the ball inbounds and turned it over.  Jon Henson (17 pts. 25 rebs.) was called for goaltending and Monta Ellis (21 pts) missed a pair of free throws.

The Bucks have now dropped 14-straight games to the Magic in Orlando.

Milwaukee played the second half without injured starters Brandon Jennings and Larry Sanders.

The Bucks have four games left, starting with a trip to Atlanta to face the Hawks on Friday night.

Bucks don’t land Smith, get Redick instead (Video)

February 22, 2013 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks were the final team that had a chance to land Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith.  The Hawks decided to keep Smith and the Bucks were able to pull off a deadline deal by acquiring guard J.J. Redick in a 6-player deal with the Orlando Magic.

With 29 games left, the Bucks are clinging to the NBA’s 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.  They’ve lost 8 of the last 10 games overall and in need of a shot in the arm.

Redick, who averaged a career best 15.4 points in 50-games with Orlando, give the Bucks some much needed offense in what will now be a solid 3-guard rotation with Brandon Jennings and Monta Ellis.

The Bucks also obtained forward Gustavo Ayon and guard Ish Smith from the Magic, sending veteran Beno Udrih and youngsters Tobias Harris and Doron Lamb to Orlando.

Redick is in the final year of his contract, which means he could just be a rental for the rest of the season.  Of course, the Bucks could attempt to sign him to a long term deal this summer.

Redick adds a legitimate long range threat.  He’s shooting a career-best 45% from the field and 39% from three point range.  The Bucks currently rank 21st in the NBA in 3-point shooting accuracy at 34.8%.

Redick and the Bucks will host Josh Smith and the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night at the Bradley Center.

Bucks finish off dismal road trip winless

January 9, 2012 By Bill Scott

The Milwaukee Bucks extended their losing streak out west to 5-games, falling in Phoenix 109-93 to the Suns on Sunday night.

The Bucks have now fallen to the Suns in Phoenix 24-straight times.  The last Milwaukee victory in the land of the sun came back in 1987.
