Packers blanked in Pro Bowl voting

December 20, 2017 By Bill Scott

Mike Daniels (76)

The Green Bay Packers didn’t have a single player named to the Pro Bowl.  They’re one of five teams that were shutout in the selection process, joining the New York Jets, Cleveland, Indianapolis and the Chicago Bears.

It was the first time since 2005 that the Packers didn’t have a single player voted to the Pro Bowl.

Players that were worthy of selection include wide receiver Davante Adams, as well as left tackle David Bakhtiari and defensive tackle Mike Daniels.

Adams ranks second in the NFL with 10 touchdown catches and he did it while missing starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers for seven games.  But the competition at wide receiver is high and can be one of the most difficult positions to crack.

Bakhtiari went to the Pro Bowl as an alternate last year but missed four games early in the season with a hamstring injury.  He was voted an alternate, but not a first alternate.

Daniels is joined by fullback Aaron Ripkowski as first alternates.  It’s the third time that Daniels has been named a Pro Bowl alternate.

Packers run the table, win NFC North (AUDIO)

January 2, 2017 By Bill Scott

Aaron Rodgers following the Packers 31-24 win over Detroit.

It was six-plus weeks ago that Aaron Rodgers told reporters around his locker that he thought the Green Bay Packers could run the table and win their final six games.

Sunday night, that forecast became reality as the Packers knocked off the Detroit Lions 31-24 at Ford Field, winning six straight games and winning the NFC North Division title.

The Packers made the playoffs for the eighth straight season and will host the New York Giants on Sunday (3:40 p.m.) in a NFC Wildcard playoff game at Lambeau Field.  It was the Packers’ fifth division title in the last six years.  The Lions, who haven’t won a division crown since 1993, made the playoffs as a wildcard team.  They will take a three-game losing streak to Seattle to face the Seahawks on Saturday night. The Green Bay Packers did enough to pull out their second straight victory and stay within two games of the first place Detroit Lions atop the NFC North Division.  They knocked off the Houston Texans 21-13 on a snowy day at Lambeau Field.

Aaron Rodgers completed 20 of 30 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns, helping the Packers improve to 6-6 on the season.

The Packers couldn’t pick up any ground on first place Detroit.  The Lions held Drew Brees without a touchdown pass in New Orleans and beat the Saints 28-13.  Detroit has a two game lead on the Packers with four left to play.

The Texans are also 6-6 in the AFC after suffering their third straight loss.  They are tied with Tennessee for first place in the AFC South. [Read more…]

After weeks of offensive struggles, the Green Bay Packers came to life on Sunday, beating division foe Detroit 34-27 in the home opener at Lambeau Field.

The Lions were missing top defensive players Ziggy Ansah and DeAndre Levy and the Packers showed no mercy, putting 31-points on the board in the first half and taking a 31-3 lead into the locker room at halftime.

It was the offense that Packers fans are used to seeing.  Aaron Rodgers tossed four touchdown passes in the first half for the second time in his career, two of the four to Jordy Nelson.  Rodgers ended up completing 15 of 24 passes for the game, finishing with a 129.3 passer rating.  He ended a string of 14 consecutive games without a passer rating of 100 or more. John Kuhn spent nine seasons as a fan favorite in Green Bay, but he didn’t get a new contract with the Packers after the organization decided to go with second year fullback Aaron Ripkowski.

The three-time Pro Bowl fullback signed a deal with the New Orleans Saints on Friday, making it the third team he will play for in his career.

Kuhn started with the Pittsburgh Steelers before signing with the Packers.  He was a Pro Bowler in each of his past two seasons and was voted a playoff captain by his teammates last season.

Kuhn continued working out, hoping to latch on with an NFL team.

Kush rushed for 601 yards and 15 touchdowns with the Packers.  He also caught 81 passes for 572 yards and eight touchdowns.

Packers Open OTA workouts to the public today

Packers workout last season at Ray Nitschke Field.

Green Bay Packers fans can get their first peek at the 2016-17 Green Bay Packers with the start of organized team activities (OTA’s) today.

The last month has been all about weight lifting, conditioning, diet and meetings.  Today, players and coaches will practice on Ray Nitschke Field (weather permitting), starting with an 11:30 a.m. practice.

The Packers will be without four rookies, who were drafted from schools that used the quarter system.  That means they can’t join their team until their schools graduate.

In the old days, whatever offseason workouts that took place, they did so with little fanfare.  Today is different.  Fans will fill the stands and be lined up along the fences, watching their favorite players and scouting out the team’s future. [Read more…]

Packers face the Chiefs, without Burnett

September 28, 2015 By Bill Scott

Packers logoThe Green Bay Packers received good news on the injury front when running back Eddie Lacy and wide receiver Davante Adams were both upgraded to probable for tonight’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Lambeau Field.  Lacy and Adams both suffered ankle injuries in last week’s win over Seattle.

Reserve fullback Aaron Ripkowski (shoulder) was also upgraded to probable as well.

But the news wasn’t all good for the Packers after Morgan Burnett’s calf injury resurfaced and he was ruled out for tonight’s game.

Burnett will miss his second game of the season after he sat out the opener against the Chicago Bears.
