At least one veteran player will be returning to the Wisconsin Badger men’s basketball team next season.

Guard Brad Davison announced on Twitter on Wednesday that he plans to return to Wisconsin for his final season, taking advantage of the NCAA’s decision that athletes who competed in their sport during the 2020-21 academic year could so so without losing a season of eligibility.

Davison has started 124 of 218 games during his first four seasons and averaged 10 points and 3.5 rebounds a game last season.

“After taking some time to reflect, there is no place I would rather be than in Madison,” said Davison.

“Being a Badger is a privilege.  I am grateful for one last ride with my coaches and teammates this upcoming season!”

Teammate D’Mitrik Trice decided not to return for an extra season and Trevor Anderson, who originally started his collegiate career at Green Bay, has decided to transfer to Valparaiso for his final season.

March 19, 2021 By [email protected]

The Wisconsin Badgers played their most complete game of the season in defeating North Carolina in the opening-round of the NCAA Tournament 85-62 Friday night.

Brad Davison had a career high 29 points on 10/15 shooting.  D’Mitrik Trice added 21 points as the Badgers drained 13 of 27 three point attempts.

With the victory Wisconsin will play the top seed in the South Region, Baylor, on Sunday.

This game marked the first time in North Carolina coach Roy Williams career that he has lost an opening-round game.

Overall the Badgers shot 51 percent from the field and 57 percent in the second half.

Wisconsin took a 40-24 lead at halftime.  In the second half North Carolina got as close to 12 points on a couple occasions, but the Badgers answered with three’s.

Wisconsin was better but still falls short at Purdue

March 3, 2021 By Bill Scott

Purdue’s 7’4 freshman center Zach Edey scored a career-high 21 points to lead the 23rd ranked Boilermakers to a 73-69 win over the 25th ranked Wisconsin Badgers in West LaFayette, Ind., on Tursday night.

With the Boilermakers dealing with foul trouble, Edey delivered, going 8 for 11 from the field and pulling down seven rebounds.

Purdue (17-8, 12-6 Big Ten) has won four straight and five of their last six, putting themselves in position for a first round bye in next weeks Big Ten Tournament.

Brad Davison had 15 points to lead the Badgers (16-10, 10-9).  Nate Reuvers and Micah Potter added 11 each, but the Badgers have dropped four of their last five and fell to 4-42 all-time at Mackey Arena.  Wisconsin is also now 0-7 against Big Ten teams in front of them in the standings.

If they Badgers are going to finish above .500 in the Big Ten regular season, they’re going to need to win at Iowa on Sunday.

The Badgers shot just 24.1% from three-point range (7-of-29) and were outrebounded 37-27.

Badgers fall to Iowa, offense is a mess

February 19, 2021 By Bill Scott

The number-21 Wisconsin Badgers shooting woes continued on Thursday night, falling to 11th ranked Iowa 77-62 at the Kohl Center.

The shooting issues have plagued the Badgers for the better part of a month now and it reached new lows against the Hawkeyes when Wisconsin hit just 4 of 15 layups in the game.  UW had 17 offensive rebounds, yet scored just four second chance points.

The Badgers did make 5-of-14 three-pointers in the first half, but just 19-of-22 from inside the arc.

For the game, UW made 13-of-34 three’s (38.2%), but just 21-of-70 (30%) overall.  Micah Potter finished with 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting and Brad Davison hit 5-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-8 from three-point distance for 15 points.

But things were much worse for the rest of the Badgers.  Aleem Ford made 2-of-10 shots and finished with 6 points.  Tyler Wahl was 0-for-6, 0-for-2 from distance and 0-for-2 from the free throw line.  Potter’s 23-point night meant Nate Reuvers [Read more…]

Despite cold shooting, No. 21 Wisconsin gets by Nebraska (AUDIO)

February 11, 2021 By Bill Scott

The Wisconsin Badgers may have been fortunate to be facing a Nebraska team that is still looking for its first Big Ten Conference victory.  UW struggled again offensively, shooting just 32% from the field but still managed to pull out a 61-48 victory over the Cornhuskers in Lincoln, Neb.

Freshman Jonathan Davis scored 10 points, the only Badger in double figures to help UW pull away in the second half.

With five of their final six games against ranked opponents, the Badgers will most likely have to figure out their shooting woes or struggle to win games as a result.  The first test comes Sunday against 3rd ranked Michigan at the Kohl Center.

The Badgers (15-6, 9-5 Big Ten) swept their season series with the Huskers.  Nebraska (4-11, 0-8) has now lost 25 straight games in Big Ten play. [Read more…]

The Wisconsin Badgers (14-6, 8-5 Big Ten) missed out on a chance to move into a tie for second place in the Big Ten, falling to Illinois (13-5, 9-3) 75-60 on Saturday in Champaign.

The Illini extended their winning streak to four games and moved to within one-half game of the first-place Michigan Wolverines, who are still on pause and won’t play again until Feb. 14 against the Badgers.

Kofi Cockburn led the Illini with 23 points and 14 rebounds, collecting nine dunks against the Badgers.  Ayo Dosunmu added 21 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists for the Illini, who shot 52.8% (28 of 53) from the field.

The Badgers made a couple of small second half runs but could never get any closer than seven points.

D’Mitrik Trice shook off a short offensive slump by scoring 22 points for the Badgers in the loss.  Nate Reuvers added 11 points, while Tyler Wahl and Jonathan Davis added seven points each.  But senior guard Brad Davison missed all five of his three-point attempts and went scoreless for the game.

The Badgers missed all 9 three-point attempts in the first half and finished just 4 of 24 (16.7%) for the game from distance.

The Badgers string of seven-straight wins in Champaign came to an end.  They return to action on Thursday against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in Lincoln (4 p.m. CT – BTN).

Badgers break open a close game to beat Rutgers

January 16, 2021 By Bill Scott

Aleem Ford and Brad Davison scored 14 points each and D’Mitrik Trice added 13 points to lead the 9th ranked Wisconsin Badgers to a 60-54 Big Ten Conference road victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in Big Ten action on Friday night in Piscataway, New Jersey.

Trice scored eight points and assisted on another basket during a 12-0 Wisconsin run to give the Badgers a 54-44 lead and create some separation from what was a back and forth struggle in the second half.

Wisconsin (11-3, 5-2 Big Ten) shot just 35% from the field and hit just 6 of 25 (24%) from behind the three-point line for the game.  Rutgers (7-5, 3-5) shot 37% from the field and made just 2 of 19 (10.5%) from three-point distance.

The Badgers let by as many as 10 points in the first half, but the Scarlet Knights cut the lead to one (33-32) at halftime.

Jacob Young led Rutgers with a game-high 17 points and the Scarlet Knights won the rebound battle 50-35.  But the Badgers made 16 of 21 (76.2%) free throw attempts, while Rutgers attempted just seven free throws for the game, making just 2 of 7 (28.6%).

It was a good bounce back win for the Badgers, after their blowout loss at Michigan on Tuesday.

The Badgers return to action on Wednesday night against Northwestern in Madison.  Rutgers is at Penn State on Thursday.

Defense Leads Badgers To Victory After Slow Start

December 23, 2020 By Bill Scott

The 9th ranked Wisconsin men’s basketball team got off to one of its worst starts in recent memory.  They didn’t reach double-digit points until the 5:26 mark of the first half, but it was the defense that held strong in a 67-53 Big Ten Conference opening win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Kohl Center on Tuesday night.

Brad Davison had 15 points to lead four players in double figures.  He added seven assists and three rebounds in the win.  Aleem Ford added 13 points and eight rebounds and Micah Potter had a double double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Badgers (7-1, 1-0 Big Ten).

The Badgers didn’t score until 4 minutes and 43 seconds had elapsed and it came from freshman Jonathan Davis, a three-pointer off the bench.

The difference in the game, besides the Badgers solid defensive play of course, was Wisconsin picked up their shooting, while Nebraska (4-4, 0-1) didn’t.  The Huskers hit just 18 of 54 field goal attempts and 8 of 27 from three-point range.

The Badgers will hit the road on Christmas Day to face the Michigan State Spartans at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
