Adams held out of practice for second straight day

November 20, 2020 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

After suffering an ankle injury in last Sunday’s win over Jacksonville, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams didn’t practice for a second straight day with the team on Thursday.

As a veteran player, the Packers will likely give Adams right up until game time on Sunday before deciding whether or not he’ll play against the Indianapolis Colts.  Adams did participate on a limited basis on Wednesday and told reporters he was trending toward playing against the Colts.

Meanwhile, starting corners Jaire Alexander (concussion) and Kevin King (quad) both practiced on Thursday and could be on track to start against the Colts.  They haven’t played together since Oct. 5.

Packers lock up Bakhtiari for four years with record deal (AUDIO)

November 16, 2020 By Bill Scott

#69 David Bakhtiari blocking during Sunday’s win over Jacksonville

It was a goal for David Bakhtiari to be the highest paid left tackle in the National Football League.  When the ink dried on the contract extension that he signed late Saturday night, the Green Bay Packers offensive lineman had just become the highest paid offensive lineman in league history.

Bakhtiari’s new deal, as reported by ESPN, is for four years and worth up to $105.5 million.  It includes $2 million in incentives and a $30 million signing bonus, all payable by the end of the current 2020 season.  The deal averages $23 million over the four years, surpassing the deal Laremy Tunsil signed with the Houston Texans in May ($22 million per year).  ProFootballTalk.com first reported the news of Bakhtiari’s extension during Sunday’s 24-20 win over Jacksonville.

“That was something that I’ve been chasing for a while,” said Bakhtiari after the game.  “In having the talks with my family, to have that monetary validation for all the hard work that I’ve put in really meant a lot and that was something that I can hold on to and have that title for the rest of my life.  That is something special that I’ve been chasing really ever since I got in the league.  I have goals, very lofty ones, and I always wanted to say that I was the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL [Read more…]

Packers bounce back to beat Texans in Houston

October 26, 2020 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

One week after suffering their first loss of the season in Tampa, the Green Bay Packers rebounded to rout the Houston Texans 35-20 on Sunday in Houston.

With four starters sidelined, the Packers turned to wide receiver Davante Adams, who combined with quarterback Aaron Rodgers for a big day.

Rodgers passed for 283 yards and four touchdowns, while Adams set career highs with 13 receptions for 196 yards to go along with two touchdowns.

The Packers jumped out to a 21-0 lead at halftime and had a 28-7 advantage after three quarters.  The offense converted on seven of their 12 third down opportunities with all seven coming on Adams receptions.

Rodgers also hit Malik Taylor and tight end Jace Sternberger for their first career regular-season touchdowns.

The Packers started the game without David Bakhtiari and Aaron Jones on offense and Kevin King and safety Darnell Savage on defense.  They lost safety Raven Green with an oblique injury and linebacker Krys Barnes with a shoulder injury. [Read more…]

Bakhtiari sits out Wednesday, questionable for Sunday

October 22, 2020 By Bill Scott

David Bakhtiari

After leaving last Sunday’s loss at Tampa with a chest injury, Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl left tackle David Bakhtiari didn’t practice on Wednesday.  It was a day that the Packers went with a shorter, lighter practice after coach Matt LaFleur told reporters earlier in the day that the team would work inside the Hutson Center because they’re banged up.  A total of thirteen players showed up on the teams injury report, which was put out later in the day.

Tyler Lancaster (shoulder), Darnell Savage (quadriceps), Robert Tonyan (ankle) and Tyler Ervin (wrist), also didn’t practice on Wednesday.  A number of other players, including cornerback Kevin King, were limited participants.

Rodgers less than thrilled with question

The first question delivered to Aaron Rodgers during his weekly session with reporters got under his skin on Wednesday.  Rodgers was asked if opponents had figured out coach Matt LaFleur’s offense and his response was short and pointed.

“So because of one game, what is it you’re implying?”  When asked again, Rodgers said, “One out of five.”

Rodgers continued to answer questions, but near the end, he was told by another reporter that he seemed down in the dumps.

“I’m definitely not down in the dumps, so don’t project that onto me.  That’s not a reality,” he said.

Packers lose rookie TE Deguara to torn ACL

October 7, 2020 By Bill Scott

The Green Bay Packers lost their third-round draft pick, TE Josiah Deguara to a season-ending knee injury in Monday’s 30-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field.

Deguara was hurt while blocking on a punt and had already missed the two previous games with an ankle injury.

“Unfortunately, it looks to be a pretty bad one,” coach Matt LaFleur said Tuesday,  “So, you know, I hurt for Josiah.  I love what he’s all about, the mentality he brings and he’s certainly somebody we were really excited about.  And it’s been a little bit of a roller coaster because in terms of I thought he had a great game vs. Minnesota in Week 1, and then he goes out with an ankle injury, you know; it’s just been, it’s been tough.  But we expect him to bounce back from it and we still think he has a really bright future in this league.” [Read more…]

Packers suffer first loss under LaFleur

September 27, 2019 By Bill Scott

Davante Adams

Nigel Bradham intercepted a tipped Aaron Rodgers pass in the end zone in the final minute as the Philadelphia Eagles held off the Green Bay Packers comeback attempt 34-27 at Lambeau Field.

Carson Wentz threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns to help the Eagles even their record at 2-2.  Jordan Howard led the Eagles ground attack with 87 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.  He also caught a touchdown pass.

Rodgers threw for 422 yards, two scores and his first pick of the season.  He completed 34 of 53 but lost a fumble and threw the pick at the end.  Davante Adams caught 10 passes for 180 yards in defeat, but left the game late with a toe injury.

Adams isn’t the only starter that left early.  Running back Jamaal Williams was carted off on a stretcher on [Read more…]

Packers hold off Vikings to improve to 2-0

September 16, 2019 By Bill Scott

Matt LaFleur

Aaron Rodgers tossed a pair of early touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers jumped out to a 21-0 lead, then held off the Minnesota Vikings 21-16 to jump out to a 2-0 start to the season.

Rodgers completed nine of his first ten passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns and had a perfect 158.3 rating through the first quarter.  He finished 22 of 34 for 209 yards for the game.

Aaron Jones scored the other early touchdown on the ground.  Jones finished with 23 carries for 116 yards and also caught four passes for 34 yards.  As a team, the Packers ran the ball 33 times for 144 yards, a 4.4 yard per carry average.

They also had the kind of balance that coach Matt LaFleur talked about when he was hired.  The Packers finished with 34 passing attempts and 33 rushing attempts. [Read more…]

Crosby returns with exhibition games set to begin

After missing the first couple of weeks of training camp, Green Bay Packers veteran kicker Mason Crosby (calf) has been cleared to return to practice.  Crosby started the season on the non-football injury list.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Sunday that Crosby has been kicking on his own and doesn’t expect there to be any limitations.

Crosby said it was his kicking leg that bothered him, but he had no pain when kicking.  He said the issue came when he would try to run.

King sidelined with hamstring

Cornerback Kevin King was on the sidelines for the Packers 1 hour, 18 minute workout on Sunday.  After [Read more…]

Packers dealing with more injuries as they prepare for Vikings

November 20, 2018 By Bill Scott

Mike Daniels

As the Green Bay Packers get ready to face the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night at U.S. Bank Stadium, they may have to add some defensive line help.

Defensive tackle Mike Daniels left Thursday’s game at Seattle with a foot injury and Monday, coach Mike McCarthy said Daniels would likely miss a couple of weeks.  Down to four healthy defensive lineman, McCarthy said he and GM Brian Gutekunst were already discussing their options to potentially add another lineman.

Tight end Jimmy Graham also left that game with a broken thumb.  Coach Mike McCarthy said Graham plans to try to play on Sunday against the Vikings and will use the week to experiment with different splints to find out what works best for the game.

The Packers also lost backups Raven Greene and Bashaud Breeland to injury during last Thursday’s game.  McCarthy said the week will offer more clarity on who may be able to go Sunday night in Minnesota. [Read more…]

Packers health changes in one weekend

November 6, 2018 By Bill Scott

Bryan Bulaga hopes to be ready by Sunday.

A week ago, the Green Bay Packers had all 53 players on their roster available to face the Los Angeles Rams.  It’s as healthy as they’ve been during the middle of a season in recent memory.  That all changed after a trip to New England.

Wide receiver Geronimo Allison saw core injury specialist William Meyers in Philadelphia and could be facing surgery, which would force him to miss at least 3-4 weeks.

Defensive back Kevin King suffered a hamstring injury against the Patriots.  Coach Mike McCarthy said King will be “hard pressed” to play Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.

Linebacker Blake Martinez and safety Kentrell Brice are both dealing with ankle sprains and right tackle Bryan Bulaga is dealing with a knee injury.  The Packers feel Bulaga dodged anything series and will be given the week to determine his playing status for Sunday.

Packers add safety

The Packers claimed safety Ibraheim Campbell off waivers from the New York Jets on Monday.

The Cleveland Browns drafted Campbell out of Northwestern in the fourth round of the 2015 draft.  He played under Mike Pettine with the Browns and wound up starting 11 games over three seasons.  After being cut by the Browns in 2017, Campbell spent time with Houston, Dallas and the New York Jets.
